Manassas Crossing by Les_FeckComment: Might be easy to pass over this, because it's so unassuming. But it is a perfectly conceived and composed photograph. It's about the meaning of the crossing. I think about all the similar crossings in all the similar places, and what they have contributed to our lives. It's a very fine documentary photograph. 8. |

Companionshipby sfmorrisComment: It's a beautiful photograph. It is rare to see this kind of thing done with genuine (rather than simulated) pathos. The three seem merged into one by the bonds between them. 8. |

Silosby jaysonmcComment: This is one of those photographs that grows, expands, as you look at it. For such a simple composition, it is very sophisticated. The twin silos standing stark and splendid like a minor installation on another planet. The stop sign suggests a rail crossing. And the road makes a kind of sweeping salute to this lonely outpost before resuming its relentless crawl to the horizon. And on the low hill, just in the corner, is a hint of a settlement. Probably the people who feed these hungry silos. Very fine picture. 8. |

Happy Canyon Roadby GermaineComment: What are you doing in the countryside? i thought you never left East Ortega and the waterfront? Those two big things are trees. The other thing just out of shot mowing the grass is a lawnmower cow. Oh it's nice out here. Take a deep breath. |

Morning Moodby JutildaComment: Cry no more.
The hardest part is over,
like a toast to friends departed
and remembered not at all.
We remember not their faces,
hear not their voices call,
turning down familiar music,
turning pictures to the wall.
And we smile and nod agreement,
pretend to dance three beats in four,
dare not remember who we were,
dare not forget it. Cry no more.
It's an old song lyric I wrote many years ago. Seemed to fit this picture pretty good. Give it to Jeremy if he can make it his style. |

the girlby Ecce_SignumComment: It's fine on my monitor. I don't think I could pick her out of a lineup, but I see her OK. |
