Loved the book, loved the movie, loved Jürgen Prochnow (I always admired Otto Kretschmer), and now I love the 'silly' picture by Z & T ... the shadow even recalls the nest behind the conning tower of a UB Type VIIC.

I feel like I'm reaching into the elusiveness of the scene, almost touching something flickering in and out of my grasp. The tones and the exposure drop-off are perfect. As for the capricious film plane, it's a bonus for me ... I was already a bit distorted anyway.
