The dog elevates it in some strange way. Maybe it's that without the dog the picture may have lost something by being too meticulous ... the lighting on the man is certainly meticulous, close to studio-like. So the dog reminds us that this is a picture of a man and his place, and not just another picture of a man.

The 'sweet spot' in this picture is his running shoes. There's the snow, the lovely contrasty buildings (architecturally and tonally), the spectacurarly converging verticals, the sly pun of the parked 'black and whites' ... all that and still it's the shoes that drive the picture. A really interesting and entertaining photograph. Thank you.
