.: X :.by AlainComment: Ok. It's an X. :D I can see where you were going with this and I like the way you've set it up (framing/composition). With the shallower DOF I'm finding the soft focus makes it look even less focused, like the X itself isn't crisp enough. I have to look to the rocks on the side to find the true focal point. Nice color and tones overall. Best of luck to you in the challenge. |

On Trackby elizadebComment: It's ok. Almost would have been better coming in closer and losing one of the wheels. Seems too balanced this way IMO. The image is sharp and well focused with a nice job of processing applied. The rust color comes off well. Good luck in the challenge. |

Midnight Expressby whiteroomComment: This is a polarizing image. Meaning that some are going to really like it, and some aren't - the processing that is. I find it interesting, not overly fond of it, but don't hate it either. Sorry if that sounds like I'm on the fence with this one, because I am. :D Reminds me of another image I've seen on DPC some time ago of a bus. Was it you? Hmmm...have to check you out after the challenge. Good luck! |

Engine 88by tembaComment: Nice. Simple, clean, nice landscape. Some color. The engine looks like it could be a little sharper focus wise, but overall pretty good. Best of luck to you in the challenge. |

Alresford Stationby kanoComment: This looks like a quaint little part of town. Fun place to walk around some with camera in hand. :D The image is fine for the most part. I do find my focus as a viewer split between the left and right sides of the track, then down the line. Hard to find a comfortable place to rest and visit this image for awhile. Honestly, there isn't anything really jumping out saying "look at me", but it's ok. Best of luck to you in the challenge. |

Whistle Stop Bluesby Elvis_LComment: Nice human touch. I do get the feeling that this is a museum type setup, but that's ok overall. A little contrasty around the edges but it serves to bring the viewer to center (which is almost backwards - usually a frame or vignetting for that purpose is darker). The placement of the guitar man adds as well by having a dark background behind him allowing him to stand out more. Not sure if that was intentional, but it worked. :D
Normally I'm not a selective desat person, but it would be interesting to see what this looked like with the guitar isolated by it's color. ???
Good luck in the challenge. |

Evening Yardworkby lynnesiteComment: Fun to see some of these in color, including people, and a real working train/railroad environment. You've done a nice job putting this together. The technicals are all in place. The two figures give the viewer a nice focal point and keep the interest in the body of the image. Nice job. Good luck in the challenge. |

Cold Steelby shutterflyComment: The tone of the image is too warm for it to be "Cold" steel. :D Actually, I like the tone you took with your processing approach. Nice tonal range. Interesting to look at. Can almost feel the power of that engine. Well done. Good luck in the challenge. |

CPR Yardsby c_rosneyComment: Great shot of a railyard. Captures the essence of what they are - not a pretty sight, but busy, hectic, and dirty. I hope you do well with this. Good luck. |

Building TheTranscontinental Railroad 1869by breadfan35Comment: Wonderful use of DOF to isolate the spike and eliminate the background. Sharp, well focused where it counts. I do want to "push" the spike to the right some to balance this. :D Should do fine with this. Good luck. |
