Blue on a cloudy day.by sjhulsComment: Greetings from the Critique Club :-)
What a lovely young lady. The angle and composition is excellent. It meets the challenge requirements well, the lighting is great. I think you nailed the main reason why the image didn't score higher, soft focus is OK in a portrait but the eyes are the key. They need to be sharp imo to draw you into the face. I have mixed feelings on the processing. I like it, yet I think you could had backed off just a little. The over all tones/colors would had worked better for me. It does have a artsy feel to it. |

I really like this shot. The warm color is very soothing. Has good clarity with movement for a abstract type of image. I think the composition could had been a little better by moving the center apple to the left some to show the highlights to shadows from 1/3 to 1/3 to 1/3 if that makes any sense. I had little trouble tying the image to the challenge with the shadow in front. I didn't get the sense of fill flash. Pretty cool image. |

Congrats on your top ten finish. I must agree with some of the comments below. I gave your image a 9. It should had finished higher. Your control of the fill flash is excellent. I'm one who likes to see a scene in a image. The background is awesome. The composition is excellent. The sepia tones work real well. If there was one thing I would nick pick on, I would like to see a little more light in the eyes. Excellent work!

My first reaction to your image was "Love it". Great shallow DOF, the colors/tones work very well together. The composition of the main subject is right on. I'm not big on boarders but with this type of crop it works well. I feel it meets the challenge requirements, it appears some felt a little different and that is what brought the score down. Yet the description stated close up shot. Wonderful image..Nice work! |

Lol....I knew when I joined the critique club I would run into some more artistic takes on challenges. But for my first from the King of artistic out of the DPC box members, It had to be you.....Lol.
My personal take: I gave the image a 4. To be honest when voting I did take a double look at the image before moving on for some reason. I just don't see where the image is going. Technical aspects are good, the texture of the sand is cool. The conversation to B&W is very good. A couple of years ago I probably would've given this a 1 or 2. I guess in some ways you and other members that show us another side of photography is sinking in a little.....Thanks

Congrats on the Blue.....It's Awesome work!
In my opinion this is a good example how you finish high here. Nail the challenge description. Do it creatively both subject and strong technical photography technics. (wish i could do it).....Again Congrats!!!! Message edited by author 2010-10-07 18:30:24. |
