sharing their griefby kerrilynComment: Wonderful sentiment, though not the strongest portrayal of it. And not a very good photograph. My-son-the-marine has only 16 days left of his four years of service. It has been a long four years for a Mom. He has close friends who have died and lost limbs. I'm so glad that you had the courage to enter this statement. Unfortunately it is not as clear as it could be. I was going to comment that the pizza boxes on the right were distracting but then realized they are crosses. The sun glare on the signs is a DPC nono, as is the slight tilt of the horizon. When the subject is placed in the center like this, it is less interesting than one placed off center. However, I am going to give you a 10 for guts and for my 21 year old son who survived and his buddies who did not. |

Morning Gloryby arngrimurComment: Oh my! Ten without a doubt. Iceland in twilight? Wonderful how the long exposure has smoothed the moving water and left the ice sharp. Terrific leading lines, makes me want to go around that corner into the light. Moon is a special touch. Oh, I hope this gets the high score it deserves and doesnt get marked down because voters have their monitors set too dark. |

Any one for Cricketby zed3Comment: Ewww. More pixels please. Read the tutorial on sizing photos for DPC- undersized photos never score well. |

Lory Birdby ginjerComment: Nice blue feathers! Clever macro - I wonder if a tighter crop wold have made the image more of an abstract, since we cant see the bird anyways, but I don't see a god alternative. the lower right seems to mute the color overall, just by covering up a little of the gray makes the blue bluer. Something to learn next is how to clone out the white spots. |

Making a splash in 2005by joynimComment: Wow- the splash looks like a little angel in her hands! I LOVE parts of this image but something about the composition as a whole doesn't work as well as its parts. The colors are delightfully subtle. The background tile floor is especially intriuing witht the water over it, I wish there were more of ot in the shot to balance the weight of the little girl. I love the way the colors of her bathing suit are matched but the reflections on the water. The leading lines (arms, legs and tiles) all point to the angel which is in a good rule-of-thirds spot. I can't quite figure out what makes this a 7 shot instead of a 10. |

attractionby oliharComment: Could you ask your friends to step out of the image and leave the landscape and the lonely guy up on the ridge? It would, of course be a differnt image. I find it disconcerting that I can't figure out what the people are doing and that detracts from the imapct the scene should have. It SHOULD be a 10 but because they make me stare at them instead of admiring the scene it might be a nine. Are they taking pictures of you taking pictures of them? Does she have a teddy bear in her arms? Is it a little dog? Is she even a she? I am forgetting to look at the spectacular clouds, the wonderful contrasts of textures, the subtle colors, the patterns of the earth. Does he have a camera also? or a gun? You see how distracting it is? |

The Sensual Nature of Emeraldby JunieMoonComment: Wow - such detail, so much green. This should do well with the voters (like me) who are currently facing a bleak colorless winter. I love the little bit of blue in the corner, it reminds me that this is a leaf, growing under the blue sky, ad not just an abstract of branching lines. |

Let Your Soul and Spirit Flyby ElemmennopeComment: So exquisite! Testbook composition leading the viewer into the photo with the stream. What magic is uo there? All the trees are bending to look, the wise old log is pointing that way. I love the contrast of the small rocks int he lower right with the misty trees of the upper left. I love the way that the separation between earth and sky disappears at the same point the stream disappears- the image wants me to leave behind the myriad details of daily life (stones) and follow the dreams in the distance. Ok, I will. 10 |

Sheby bucketComment: This is an amazing amazing work of art. If I could vote twice I would give it two tens. I'm sure it used to be in my favorites but I cant remember who's image it is. I love the light and shadow on her calfs, the awkward position of her toes, the relaxed hang of her fingers, the underwear, the headless anomimity, the unusual beackgroudn color, the grain. This might be my most favorite picture EVER! |
