I did not vote on this challenge. I think a number of people probably did not pick up on the correlation between a dog drinking water and a hot day, and therefore felt you were shoehorning in a shot of your pet with the title. A number of the low votes probably also came from people that immediatly dismissed it as a snap shot and moved on to the next image.
Thats my analysis, for what its worth.

Carcassonne!! My wife and I play this all the time. Nine points for the complete cloister, if you'd had a Meeple there.

I think this is a 3inch naval AA gun from World War 2 (possibly World War I but I don't think its quite that old, maybe inter war years).

The focus point on the image seems to be on the the trees behind the gun, rather than the gun itself.

This is fantastic. It looks so amazingly noise free that it is almost hard to believe it is a photo. The crisp sharpness of the tower and the rocks stands out against the mistyness of the sea and the softness of the sky, fabulous.

This is fantastic. My wife and I have travelled to Washington and Alaska, each time we picked out fishing villages for early morning shooting- and I wanted fog. Everytime, clear. My wife thinks I am nuts, we're on vacation and I want fog. Oh, well.

I love the birds in the image and the way it seems to go to nothingness right in front of the bow of the ship.

Fantastic image. The B&W processing is very well done. There appears to be a little loss of detail in the sleeves (that may be my monitor). But, a great image.

Have to agree with Art on this one, the flames look washed out and also cut out. But, the first thing I noticed were the really funky laces, you have an extra set running between her fingers.

I understand why this was called a vignette in basic. I like the image, I think the processing is rock solid. Personally, I don't care for the border, I think it detracts from the image and gives it an almost claustrophbic feel.

Its a shame the tree is encroaching in on the left side of the frame. The B&W on this shot is fantastic.

Great shot.

This brought to mind a funny story. About twenty years ago when I was in high school one of my female friends was complaining to a group of us about how much trouble she was having getting dates. One of my other friends pointed out- 1) Your dad is an ex-marine, and not just a marine but a spec ops, kill and leave no trace kinda Marine. 2) Your dad is like 6'2" 260 and nothing but muscle. 3)Your dad is the chief of Police 4) Your dad is scared to death of your Mom, so God knows what kind of wicked stuff she knows. 5) We all remember last year when you whooped your Moms butt in Karate class (she really did). Therefore, we're all scared to death to take you on a date, one misstep and its Kobyashi Maru (we were all Trekkies)
