This was natural light right at sunrise. I had off camera flash all ready to go and then the sun rose behind a thin veil of clouds. I shut off the flash and just started shooting while I had the light. It was gone in about 10 minutes when the sun brightened up and moved from behind the clouds. Then I put the sun behind her and used the flash. Found some very unexpected light in an ally later in the session if you are interested. |

The Sound of Silenceby essayComment: This was the first image that appeared in my voting list and the initial presentation blew me away. I wish it was much bigger so I could really enjoy the detail, but it's clearly a wonderful image. |

me2.jpgby deersComment: I love this shot because it feels so real. I don't know if it was a quick grab or something carefully planned and executed, but it comes off as a wonderful slice of real life and I find that very powerful. |

misunderstoodby njsabsComment: I'm going to start off my saying I love this shot, but I'm going to ask a question too. I know how hard it is to make one of these "laying on the ground" shots work, so I'm impressed to start with. The DOF is perfect and adds a lot to the shot. The lighting is wonder as well with great depth a great tonality across his face. So now I'm going to ask about the lightness of the jeans on his visible leg. The jeans are brighter than his face and draw the eye up a bit in the frame. There is nothing wrong with this, but I'm just curious if you were concerned about it or had decided it was an important element of the composition? |

Max 1by PaulComment: Excellent portrait. I love the depth of field and how it bring focus to his eye and eye lashes. The lighting provides wonderful tonality and depth. I like the hat... adds a lot of character and keeps this from being just another portrait. |

could not ask for moreby photokariangelComment: Great portrait! Your subject is well lit and pops from the background yet the image looks very natural. The best work looks almost effortless and this is a great example. |
