I have seen a similar image, minus the lemon slice, before - perhaps at photosig, don't remember. Thumbs down on originality. Journey

I'm not voting this week and just flipping through the thumbnails. Wanted to say that i like this picture a lot. Good composition, good cropping. Love the orangy brown with the blue and the texture on the rocks. The focus seems a tad soft but i like that in this image as it adds to the overall mystique. I see some blotches in the sky, a little overcompressed maybe? I'll give this a 10 but it won't count so you'll loose that by the end of the week, sorry :) Journey (until dpc facilitates voting for us slow-modem folks i just can't find the time/energy anymore to vote)

I just read your forum post about the Critique Club and that made me decide to comment on this picture. First of all, I commend you on a nice sense of creativity. That shines through even though you're working with low-end equipment that hampers efforts towards a great image the way you visualize it. I like the title because the color of the water has gotten a feel of fire about it, i.e. more creativity there :) The background of the houses and the tree is quite interesting; you don't have dof capability so have you to work with what you got; would have been nice otherwise to blur this a little. There are two things i find distracting: one is the letters of the advertisement near the house; it's a little too prominent (again, you had no control over that). The other thing i found distracting is the greyish foreground of the fountain edge. I would have cropped that out and the picture would have given more focus on the water/fire that way. Imho, cropping it that way would enhance the visual interest of the overall image. Overall, good job in creativity and really that's the most important part (a better camera will come some day). Regards, Journey

Hehehe, i guessed that right! Seeing this picture again, i take it back that the top part is boring. Sorry. It's quite a nice picture overall.

Even though i'm not voting, i like to comment on this picture as i have a hunch who submitted it. I like the originality of the submission and see how it meets the challenge but maybe that's because i'm very smart ;) I see two pictures here: the top part, which i find rather boring, was included to tie it into your challenge theme. The bottom half of the picture is the part that i really like. It's very emotional and evocative and it gives me the sensation of being right there in that boat on the water and being able to stick my hand out and feel the water. If the top part hadn't been included, the lighting in the bottom left could have been better as well. Too bad the water and the boat are the same color. Had i voted, would have given this a 7. I couldn't possibly begin to guess in what part of the world this was taken but wow what a lot of trees :) Journey

This is a nice portrait of a dress since the face is so dark that you can't see it well. This is not dpc related but just wanted to comment that one has grown accustomed to a different standard for fashion photography that involves some editing, lots of editing frequently. Although the model is young and slim, the image is not entirely flattering as a fashion shoot. The lines under her chin and around her armpit would have been edited out if it were. I don't like the light on the thumb. The light is on the left of her body and gives a beautiful effect on her left shoulder. Yet, the pose seems to indicate the focus of the image is on the right arm and hand with the fabric draped over them. There's where the light happens to be poor. 8 Journey

Nice negative space. What's the No. 3 in the title - do you have three hands???? This picture reminds me of strip-tease in the sense that there's a lot of hoopla and excitement being offered but in the final analysis you end up being short changed. I see this tensed hand here and it seems to hint that a strong message is being delivered but what the message might be i fail to see. Then again, maybe that's just because i'm an anal dpc voter :) Perhaps, you wanted to have your hand read but, sorry, i won't do that free :) I'll give you a 7; that's 1 for the hand and 1 for each negative shape., 1 for meeting the challenge, and minus 1 for the crappy title Journey (btw, haven't i seen this hand very recently??? :)

Really cool image and great dramatic light. Seems like a cool dude but he could use a shave (although that stubble is a nice prop for the picture). 8 Journey
