An appealing image that contributes well to the extended challenge
What a lovely, creative and original idea. I can imagine this must have been one hard image to get together in a convincing way but that is exactly what you have achieved it does look really convincing. Altough it's a tad soft at the front it is not at all detrimental to the end result. The lighting, her pose everything just comes together lovely, well done. A well deserved high score that in any other challenge would have won outright, well done Johanna

The lighting is good to the extent that it clearly defines the subjects features against the black background. I would like to see the eyes. The eyes are always such a strong draw in any portrait it would enhance the end result a lot, without them it feels a little manikin-like without soul. I take it all back! A closer inspection has revealed the eyes, that makes it work so much better now. Given how hard the eyes are to see I wonder how many others moved on before seeing themâ€Â¦?
A great mono portrait that fulfils the challenge brief well. |

Another great image Ronnie, great viewpoint. I love the shape of the alligator as it swims towards you, however, the distinct ripple in front of it is rather distracting which is unfortunate given such a lovely image as you have here. The shape on the right of the frame is especially detrimental to the overall result. I love the colours and distortions on the water surface, this together with the alligators features are tantalising. Good luck with your ambitious challenge, I'm confident you will get thereâ€Â¦! |

I'm To Sexy For My Shirtby PhocalComment: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that meets the challenge well
The stark high contrast between the bird and the white background is very effective indeed. The tones and detail in the feathers is beautiful and this is what gives the image its impact. So was the original background snow and the processing has pushed it to this pure plain white backdrop? My only minor point is that I may have been tempted to clone out those small white spots on his neck just to complete the birds perfection. Nice one Ronnie. |

Nice one, this has instant impact Janine. I love the stark graphic quality of this it hits you as soon as you see it. The perspective and composition is good too. The limited tones are what makes this work so well it is very graphic, the distant delicate grey veins of the twigs are a great backdrop to the well defined shapes of the trunks, well seen and executed. |

Well congratulations Janine for first place, your ribbon and a thoroughly deserved high score. Your image is really something special and a very fitting tribute to an excellent landscape photographer. The choice of a low viewpoint and technical accuracy has given the image a remarkable depth of field which draws you into the scene as a whole, it works well. The snows, the sky and the rugged mountains are all a treat and the panorama crop adds to it all, an excellent result well done Janine. |

In the Light of David Muench's National Parks by NeilComment: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that meets the challenge well
I had to quickly familiarise myself with David Muench, I would say yes, your image is a fitting tribute to his style of work. You have achieved great depth of field here through appropriate choice of aperture and focus point and softened the water with your long shutter speed to produce an image that I would imagine he would be proud of. As for the foreground the lighting helps to give it a more dimensional feel it works well as part of the whole. So, congratulations for your ribbon and high score, both thoroughly well deserved. |

An appealing image that meets the challenge well
Hello Mariano and welcome to DPC with your maiden entry, and what a maidenâ€Â¦! I like the costume and her make up, especially the fangs! Technically is not bad at all but I do have a couple of things to say. The lighting is good but she is too close to the background, you want it uniformly black and sufficiently soft focused to get rid of all the creases. Whilst camera shake is not evident I would suggest 1/60s as a minimum speed if it was hand held but it is acceptable if you used a tripod. Anyway, great start Mariano we look forward to more from youâ€Â¦ |

Well Susan, you made the top ten, well done. Once again, there is a lot of thought and effort gone into this and the end result is truly macabre. It̢۪s all well executed and suitably spooky. I have to plead my ignorance about the hand of glory but then I must have led a very sheltered life! Once again well done Susan. |

Great Horned Owl on Halloween evening.by RulerZigzagComment: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that meets the challenge well
How fortuitous It was to see your owl for Halloween and this challenge. I̢۪m assuming you had a good tripod at 1/15 with that heavy lens? The image is nice enough in terms of composition and posing over his back that works well enough but the image is rather soft throughout. Also the tail feather is sharpest of all suggesting that the focus is not as it should be. Ideally, the eyes need to be the sharpest to draw our attention to them. The blue fringing on the leaf stem is also distracting but overall a reasonable attempt Anton, thanks for sharing. |
