The Shuttered Roomby sherComment: This is one of you best that I've seen. It has a simple and aloof flair to it. A new favorite for me. |

Melting Pointby sherComment: This is very cool. The DOF really makes this shot amazing and the duotone is perfect. |

The Cat With the Pink Mohawkby princessfriesenComment: Critique Club
Hi Erin. As you realize by the comments below, you were likely voted down due to the weak perspecvtive. This is not to say that the image is not a good one but it is simply a head-on picture of a cat from above. Your focus is good and the blurring DOF worked well to soften the background. The colors are subtle and the tones are good. You have portrayed a "fluffy kitty" quite well. On the other side, the shot is rather......boring?.......unless you are of course a cat lover. If you are, there is no such thing as a bad photo of a cat. I think a good part of the low vote has to do with the negativity people feel toward submitting pet photos in challenges. The voting matrix likely resulted from this sentiment as the photo is not really that bad. I hope that helps and I encourage you to explore some different and unusual subjects and perspectives.

Embassy Rowsby banmornComment: Critique Club
Hi Robert. This is going to be a tough one to critique because I really like it. Oh well, here it goes. I think your score got short-changed as this shot is very tight. All of the elements are the. Focus is perfect, colors are vibrant, yet not overwhelming. The lines are ideal and lead me throughout the image. I see perspective here ...... you tilted this building sideways......go figure. The only fault I can put my finger on is that the shot is very geometric, sterile and cold. You should have placed a damn kitten on one of the balconys. ;-) This is one of those images where I question why we waste our time asking for feedback from the general voters as they simply don't get it. Either way, I like it. Good luck.

All Inby angela_packardComment: Critique Club
Hi Angela. This shot definitely met the challenge criteria though I feel it is lacking in several areas. Firstly, though I understand what you are portraying, the subject is somehwat lack-lustre and boring. Had the image contained some element that would capture my interest, I'd likely overlook some of the technical weaknesses. The focus is okay but the DOF is a little distracting. Had you backed up a bit and increased the aperature setting, you may have remedied some of that. The colors might have been tweaked up a bit a to add a bit more zip to the image. Overall, the technical elements of the image are not that bad but I just really find the shot to be quite boring and as a resulty, your score indicated that. Keep clicking and submitting as it takes a bit of time to get into the groove. Please understand that this is just my opinion and if there are aspects of my review that you wish to discuss, please PM me. Thanks for your interest.

DESERTEDby fotobugComment: Critique Club
Hi Steve. Congrats on your excellent score of 6.0794. There are alot of enrants who strive for that much longer than it has taken you to acheive it. Primarily, I'd say a good part of your success was due to the Infared element of your shot. They are just soooo cool and very few photos on this site utilize this technique. I'd like to get a filter but I'm still paying off my latest lens. Anyhow, you've created a very good perspective of this roadway and the technical aspects of the shot are very tight. I suspect had you included a few more subject elements into the shot, it may have fetched a higher score. Other than that, If it ain't broke, you don't fix it. Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing your future submissions.

Corkscrewby neokaitigerComment: Critque Club
Hi Anthony. Woohooo......a 6 in your third challnge. Pretty impressive. I like the cool perspective you have of one of the most unsettling parts of a roller coaster, the corkscrew. Tough shot to get and also to get in focus considering the fact your or riding your subject. As you have been told, the shot is a bit blown out and that is an issue which could have been mitigated with either contrast, brightness, shadows/highlights and or curves. I guess you'll be mindful of that it next time though overall, I really like this shot. Its.........interesting. Good luck in future challenges!

Days of Decadenceby FotoMunkiComment: Critique Club
Hi Mark. I really like the perspective of this shot on a subject that is larger than life. I can see a few things which I feel may have hindered your submission from getting a higher score. Firstly, the shot seems to be somewhat washed out. Had you sharpened the image a bit more and used shadows/highlghts, it may have drawn out greater detail. Secondly, the columns edges appear to have some "sawtoothing" on them. Not knowing what your origianl was like or at what iamge quality you had been shooting, I'll say you may have cropped too small. Along the "frieze? line" I can see that your contrast is out of whack. This is a very delicate thing to tune and it mushed out that part of the photo. I believe these elements had cost some points. Good luck in future challenges.
