Years Gone Byby rayg544Comment: I really like the composition of this photograph. The fact that the building is somewhat obstructed adds an element of losing hold of the past, just beyond our reach our memory. I would like something a bit more dramatic, maybe contrast or a broader range of focus (crisp in the foreground and softer in the background to add to that air of the past, or maybe the other way around). I know that would be risky because it seems most of the voters like their images hyper-crisp, but that riskiness could allow this photo to trascend to the level of art. The artist would have to play around with it to know if it would work. |

Sinking Into Uselessnessby jbsmithanaComment: There are too many images fighting for my attention. This image is too cluttered. I would have focused on the rotting pier and the image of growing industry in the background. The photographer has the potential to nail this challenge in this photo, but the battle for my attention weakens the message.
Brilliant crispness in the images, however. The technical aspects of this photo are truly exquisite. With a little more attention to artistic composition, he or she would be hard to beat in a challenge. |

Monuments to a Time Passedby slynneblarpComment: The brilliant colors of this photograph and the underlying values from black down the scale to white create a stiking image. This photograph lacks a focal point for me, however, and so it leaves me feeling like it is not quite complete. My eye can't decide between the trees or the monuements. I would crop it a bit differently, making the monuements the focal point, framed by the brilliant yellows and golds of the leaves. |

Solid2Liquidby EddyGComment: Nice concept and I like the use of color from cool blue in the background to warm red in the foreground. I also feel movement in the lines underneath the melting ice. It gives the feeling of the image sliding off the edge of the photo. The artist's placement of the focal point in the lower left edge of the frame adds to the illusion of movement. All his or her efforts work well to create an overall succes in this image. Nicely done. |

Star Clockby Mary Ann MeltonComment: This image works to meet the challenge; however, I have seen it done so many times. The color is a nice touch, which makes it a little edgier. I would have changed the angle by moving the North Star off center, something to make it seem fresh. |

Like Sands Through an Hourglassby TooCoolComment: Without the title, I wouldn't have know what this was right away. The image is very feminine, and the line is graceful and beautiful. The artist does an outstanding job of capturing the of the movement of the sand and the steady march of time. Creative and risky. Bravo. |

Arcing Forwardby gruvinComment: Your image conveys the message nicely but maybe just a bit too nicely. It seems a little traditional. Beautiful crisp images on the face of the timepiece. |

Granddad (1920-2004)by simbambaComment: I imagine that this bench brings back memories, and that the shadow represents for grandfather's life. The leaves and shadow work well together to show the passage of time, and the placement of the bench in the left upper edge adds to the sense of looking back while time marches on. It is the creative use of space that adds that touch of tension that makes this more than just a picture of pretty leaves. Your title did help me to understand the message your image conveys. Nicely done. |

40 years....by rhipsterComment: This is nice. Similar lighting, expression and dress. I like that you changed the angle of your modern subject so that he appears to be looking back, or better yet, trying to see what his younger self was seeing, or remembering what he was imagining. The earlier image seems to be looking ahead to the future even though he is not committed toward the right, which is traditional future, so very nicely done. I would like to see the modern subject's shoulder behind the younger one and moved a touch closer with their heads almost touching and as if he were "standing behind" or supporting his yournger self. So many excellent subtle touches that it is truly a work of art. |
