A double self portrait. I used the paint with light technique to do the double exposition (paint the B/W old portrait with a light torch, and using a flash for the actual portrait). I used a black velvet for background, scotched the old portrait picture to a lamp base.
Dodging and burning a bit to homogeinese the blacks.
Lens Canon 50mm 1.4 @ 22

Wow, this is terrific! It's also instructional. I didn't realize that photos of photos could look so real. I'll keep that in mind for my future entries. :)

Congrats on your top ten finish René.
Interesting composition - had me fooled on it being a double self-portrait.
Well Done!

Congratulations on your 9th placing. What cool lighting to bring out this message.

I think I'd have preferred the young version to be black and white rather than sepia. The two sides seem to clash to me this way. Good shot, though.

Great concept and interesting execution...looking forward to your photographer's notes! I see you've been "validated"--I wouldn't claim to know how this was done, but my imagination can suggest some possibilities... Hope you place well in the challenge but, regardless, you've created an image to be proud of, I'm sure.

I really like this shot. The cloudiness around both heads is a bit distracting, but this is such an excellent shot for this challenge that really tells a nice, emotional story. Great job.

Great Photo, I really like it. The left hand face looks a little washed out (probably because that's a printed photo), still liek the whole concept. Hopefully it does well.

What a fascinating picture. A true study in aging. The eyes still have the same intensity but probably quite a bit wiser! Great interpretation of the challenge.

This is very well conceived and executed and the type of image that I would imagine has most folks spending a lot of time studying.
Rene Hipkin (RHipster) perhaps?.. the young you would appear to be from the mid sixties, which would put you in my era :)
Good work.

This is nice. Similar lighting, expression and dress. I like that you changed the angle of your modern subject so that he appears to be looking back, or better yet, trying to see what his younger self was seeing, or remembering what he was imagining. The earlier image seems to be looking ahead to the future even though he is not committed toward the right, which is traditional future, so very nicely done. I would like to see the modern subject's shoulder behind the younger one and moved a touch closer with their heads almost touching and as if he were "standing behind" or supporting his yournger self. So many excellent subtle touches that it is truly a work of art.

Fascinating image, and the type of image I had orignally wished to do for this challenge - but didn't have the skill. I can't say it is a photo I find interesting enough to "hang on the wall" as a composition, but for the challenge, it is a perfect study of our passing in time.

Nice lighting contrast. The plain back blackground sets off the models nicely.

The lighting, the background, the concept -- all captivating! Would love to see more photos like this.

Either way a handsome guy ;) Great idea, looks like you are standing shoulder to shoulder with a son. I'm a beginner and have no idea how you accomplished this but it gets my 10, just love it!

I had a similar idea but in the end did not enter anything. Dont think mine would have been as good as this. Good luck

Great idea- not sure how you did it, but I like the fact that you even tried to match the lighting!

II just recently calibrated my monitor and the background behind the two heads is quite distracting. Maybe on darker monitors it isn't as visible?
