First up, I really like the subject and idea you have used here. The lone figure adds a lot of character to the photo. Well done!
What has really hurt this photo with the voters is the blown highlights both in the foreground and especially at the end of the tunnel in the background. By looking at the photo it appears to be a winter/snow landscape and with the outside light hitting that snow it's really blowing things out. It's a hard one though as I know I have had very contrasty photos like this myself and it's difficult to control that balance so as to not lose any detail in the darker areas. A tough one to work on without using a filter on your lens.
I like that the tunnel is not quite centred in your framing. Maybe you could of cropped the photo slightly tighter to remove the edge of the tunnel from both front bottom corners as they just distract slightly. Looking at the detail within the tunnel your focus looks good too.
All up, you met the challenge with your post processing but it's the blown highlights which let it down with the voters. Well done on your highest score to date though and best of luck with future challenges.

First up, congratulations on this photo and your score. It is a pleasant image to look at and it conveys a feeling of peace and calm.
I find I have to agree with some of the comments with feeling that the main subject is too far away. The current crop gives a nice scale of the size of the hill in the background but makes me want to lean in to search the farm out and look for detail. Perhaps to have brought that in slightly but not too much as to kill the scope of the pic.
The colours look good and you've done a nice clean job of the PP. I would of liked the sky to have been a shade bluer just to really contrast against the orange foreground and the clouds.
Overall this is a nice photo and it scored well with voters. Well done and best of luck with future challenges.
Neil

Fall by arnitComment: Great photo. It all seems nicely balanced except for the darker patch bottom right! |
