The high contrast is great. I always worry about losing definition, but I think here it helps, especially in the black water.

I like how you kept the top needles just peeking into the shot. With the cut-off branch sneaking into the top-right corner, the whole thing is kind of creepy and foreboding.

I like how the red berries really *pop* in this shot.

You've squeezed stark, bleak, and quiet all together here. Nicely done.

Your title totally makes me think you've just shoehorned this otherwise great shot into this challenge. Out of so many other ways to get this in ("Local artist Joe Blow has a vision" "After ten years in prison, innocent man sees freedom") you've guaranteed a slew of DNMC votes. I love the framing here - the glasses around the eyes, the hood around the face, and the whole thing off-centered. The b&w really brings the viewer to his face.

Really cool shot. But it doesn't tell me any story at all about corruption, which is what your title says it is. The distortion is cool, but it's people who are corrupt, not the building. (And the one burnt out bulb is way too subtle.) This would be great for a feature on restoration or the architecture of City Hall

Cool shot. But because it's a photojournalism challenge, I need to see her face, especially with that title. Or (and I can't believe I'm saying this) be more specific with the title. Ignoring the challenge though -- great job with the lighting; the backlight and hair halo are really nice as is the looooon shadow.

That fluorescent lighting must have killed you. This looks like it might have been a set-up shot, though, so I would think you could have done something about the lights. Still, it's a good shot for photojournalism. The bookbag next to the laptop is a nice touch.

I'm just not buying this as photojournalism. For that title, I'd expect to see more -- more leaves, a field of trees changing colors, a kid holding this leaf. If you're going to do a set-up shot for photojournalism, there definitely needs to be more story.

It's a shame your subject's face is half-hidden. I think it would be better if he were either turned away like everyone else or facing the camera, either full-on or 3/4.
