Thanks everybody for your votes and comments! This is my first challenge entry, and I am quite satisfied with how I did (and with the comments I received ;).

I agree that the dirt is distracting. The structure of the steps isn't so bad in my opinion, especially if the image is larger than here.

Regarding the shadows, I believe that they are important. I also took some pictures where the shadows were not visible, but I like this one better. There is more depth in the image, and it doesn't become completely abstract. That's also why I believe that a tighter crop (without the top right corner) would have become too dull.

This would be a very nice picture - if the horizon was level. It just looks extremely weird the way it is now. But I like the object and also the way the water looks with this long exposure time. The foam in the bottom left is a bit distracting, too - but not too bad.

While this is not a great photograph (ok, it's not that bad ...), i think it best fits the theme of this challenge. I am a bit concerned with so many people associating money or jewels with serendipity ... something much more mundane but still surprising and charming (as in this case) is much closer to its meaning, in my opinion.

That's really lucky! The pearl even comes with a hole in it for instant use ;) But this is luck, not serendipity ... there's a very fine line between them, but it's there.
