I really like this image a lot. You have managed to avoid the look and feel of a simple snapshot. The pose looks natural, but also suggests a portrait of the two subjects. The expression on the face of the woman, with eyes closed is very powerful, and the natural way her hand rests with the dog's paw is just beautiful. I honestly don't think I'd change a thing. I agree with your choice to go black and white. Photographing people is tough, pets are cliche. You've managed to combine both into a picture that just works. I give it an 8.

A good example of when a little oversharpening is a good thing. The subtle halo around the figure is very powerful. It looks biblical. Nice touch!

Ah, this is what I love about DPC. Take me to the location, show me the view, and I could take this picture just as well as you. You, however, saw it. SAW it. I admire your vision as much as I admire your photography. This should be hanging on your wall. Sell a print and it may be hanging on mine.

A shot with potential, but unfortunately, the extremely shallow dof left the cat with patchy blur. Maybe try with some distance and zoom to increase the dof.
