triumphant sunriseby rider808Comment: Sunrises and sunsets are a tough sell in most challenges. They're shot often and as a result, there has to be something truly spectacular about them to make them stand out. Moreover, in the DPC Universe, there has to be some connection to the challenge. In this case, I'm afraid, you've got neither. It's not a spectacular shot of a sunrise, nor is there any reasonable connection to the challenge other than your appending the word to the title. |

Serenityby SamDoe1Comment: A nice capture - my astronomer's heart is with you - but too dark overall. I want to believe that you could have pulled more out of this in post processing, but I don't know what your raw image was like. You've got three elements to work with, which is two more than most astrophotographers start with: sky, aurora, and foreground. You've got to find a way to really punch one or more of those - detail and some color in the foreground, boosting the contrast and brightness of the aurora, etc. Elinias' shot is an example:
I'll be back to see who shot this and ponder the details after the challenge ends. |

High, Dry and Abandonedby killjoy181Comment: Wow, the set of Gilligan's Island has really gone to hell! On a more serious note, I think this image doesn't live up to its potential for two reasons: First, the composition is too centered and static. No drama, tension or dynamic at all. Second, the BW conversion leaves it very flat and lacking in contrast. Everything is either very white (boat) or very dark and shadowy (everything else). It really needs some tonal range. |

Wrath from aboveby shalrathComment: Awesome capture. The result is a nearly perfect lightning composition. Tremendously well done! |

Gobletsby ShmeeComment: I'm not normally particularly bugged by non-level horizons, but I think it's really hurting this image. Everything really feels like it's falling over to the right. Lighting glass is a bitch, eh? |

Oasisby MelethiaComment: I love it. People will surely criticize the blown windows but I think they're perfect. Nice balance in the composition and an elegant conversion to BW. |

The Birdsby inutzaComment: Nice job of taking a "just another sunset" photo and turning it into something that makes me pause. I'm sure I studied this for a full minute, just appreciating the magnificent depth and detail. The thing that would have turned this into a sure winner is one bird, close to the camera, in sufficient detail to give the image a clear subject and focal point for the eye to return to. Still, great job! |

early morning by dragonladyComment: A beautiful shot. Just the right degree of softness and gently diffused light. The kind of image you dream of achieving. I hope you hang a print of this on your wall. |
