Leaving lights on...by scwortmanComment: I would have really liked to see what this would have looked like without the paper covering up the glass. great shot, beautiful use of light and lines though |

X-Rays (Accidentally Discovered in 1895) by labudsComment: Amazing shot, I'm very curious to see how you accomplished this shot. The compistion is good, maybe a touch less dead space at the top would have been nice. Also, you washed out the back of the hand a little. I think just a touch of darkness would have improved the dramatism of this photograph. Still, great shot, there is no justice in the world if this is not the blue ribbon winner. |

Empireby toadtheprinceComment: I put a lot of thought into this photograph and a couple of the comments made reflect that it didn’t really come through for some people. The stature is of Marcus Aurelius, the last of the greatest Roman emperors. I took the photograph from below looking up to signify the power of the individual. I also placed the subject mildly off balance, falling backwards, because Aurelius was the last emperor before we see the backslide of Rome. Also, I did not include Aurelius’ head because I wanted the picture to symbolize the Empire, hence the title, not just the figurehead. The belt and breastplate show many symbols of victories in battle as well as symbols of the empire (the eagles). I’m sorry all of this didn’t come across, you have to be mildly familiar with the subject for it to jump out at you.
