very blah compositon -- how to add drama is the big question for you. possibly short DOF, angle the carrot in the frame, shoot it in context (the texture of cake icing would add a lot of interest).

good idea, not so satisfying, but I can't quite put my finger on what it needs... sorry. Maybe the foreground is a little empty? Maybe I want a whole cheez-it as the subject? Dunno. Technically pretty good. Maybe the wood grain is too pronounced and distratcting?

This image had great possibilities -- but the very short DOF and harsh flash didn't serve well. I would have opted not to use the macro. Since this is digital, shoot LOTS of pix, trying different solution!!!!

Nice, graphic. I think it could be improved with better focus or sharpening, it needs a touch more contrast within the subject (which, incidentally, would provide the tonal range necessary for the perception of sharp edges). With the added subject contrast, the background would go darker, which wouldn't be a bad thing at all.
