Glyphsby alanbataarComment: Thanks to all who commented. This image really seemed to polarize folks. My general sense is that people either liked or hated the lighting. I was attempting to get "dramatic" light on the slightly pebbled surface of the wall, but in retrospect, I think it was just dark and blah. If I were to do it again, I would place a white card on the left side to fill in a little and even out the background.
And, of course, in the days after the contest ended, I figured out several better ways of hanging the model. I had rushed into it, and it was a bit of a last minute deal... I hoped that the creativity of the idea would raise the score.
This is one of those cases in which I liked it a lot when I submitted it, but don't like it as well now. |

Strong coffeeby neehaiComment: Very clever -- good play on words. I don't like the orange/red cast in the light. This can be improved by shooting in "incandenscent/lightbulb/tungsten" white balance mode (if your camera offers it). It can also be corrected in Photoshop by adjusting the Hue/Saturation or Levels. Both functions offer selective color or per-channel color correction. Additionally, I would like to see some detail in the spoon -- it's just solid shadow, perhaps a white card reflecting a tad of light onto the spoon would be just enough to bring back the detail. I know it sounds like I'm hammering on you, but I really like your image! |

The Power to Change the Worldby gpiersonComment: Pretty picture, but unfortunately, the hightlight on the globe is blown out pretty dramatically. This is, granted, incredibly picky... it seems that the back of the hand is every-so-slightly soft: this can be improved in 2 ways -- smaller apeture or position the camera further away and use zoom. |

The strong will surpress the weakby dadas115Comment: Talk about right time, right place. Nice capture. Technical issues hold this back somewhat -- I would score it better if the whole body were in focus, which could be achieved with a smaller apeture. You have the action incely in focus. I admire that you caught the shot at all, so don't be discouraged by my comment. |

BULLby OlyuziComment: cropping out the base of the statue give it an un-balanced feel: perhaps just a touch more would give some sense of grounding -- otherwise, it looks like the bull could be floating through the trees. |
