Well well well.. hello from the critique club!
Hi Ben.

LOL, nice way to put me on the spot with giving me a winner. Darned mixed critiquing thingy list. YOu know what I mean. Well. let's get to your picture.

Personally, I love negative space, and I use it frequently in my photos, and I love black and white, which I also use frequently enough. Soo... What's the problem and why didn't you win? That's the main thing I think I will focus on.

Now.. I think there's a teeeny tiny focus problem and the focus is a tad bit soft on your face (not the negative space). Now a soft focus on this picture is good in my opinion, but some people don't like it.

I know I can't give you any helpful critisism. Honestly. BUT! I can tell you that you achieved a great shot here, and my only suggestion would have been a candle in the left hand corner. I don't know what that woulddo, but it might make more sense with the actual title. You know? maybe just half the candle.. ooh, I think that would be nice.

Anyway, enough of that, I think this is a stunning shot and conveys emotions very well. You should be proud. I think this is one of your best shots ever.

Hello from the critique club!
Hi Dim7 :D

wow, that an imaginative pictures :) I like the idea of putting the dollar on the mirror; very clever. Great light source.
What I don't like is the background colour. I think perhaps a darker colour would have brought out the details and the colour of the silver dollar out better.
Did you try a slower shutter speed? that would have been cool. I think the aperture was a bit too low as well. That level of aperture only means that the camera focused on the closest point and the rest was out of focus;of course you probably know that already. I would have made the aperture around a 5 -7.. I'mnot sure exactly, I would have experimented to see what worked the best.
I think the lowish score was because a lot of people didn't understand the passage of time in the normal sense of the word. I liked it well enough though.
Wishing you luck in the future challenges :)

Hello from the Critique Club!
Hello crzystarbuckzgrl!
Wow, what a name you have, so hard to type up *laughs*

Let's get down to business :)

The composition in this photo is just great. Very nicely balanced.. The bush on the left draws the eye to the clock up in the right hand, which works nicely.
The sepia tone seems to fit nicely. Did you try plain black and white? I'm not convinced... I"m not sure what it is. Maybe it's the border which doesn't fit with the way the photo is set up. You want people to believe this is an oldish photograph, and at the same time you add a stark black border, which just doesn't fit.
The lighting seems a little bit harsh, and I think I would have prefered to see more into the clock, although then you might lose the composition you put into it. Ah, I see why you lost detail in the clock. your aperture (the f rating) was a bit too shallow. Did you try around an F6-8? you would have gotten more depth, and you would have had the clock more in focus.
Good luck in the next challenges!

Very cool shot, very cool effect... I don't get the joke! NORTY of you to make me think!.... my brain hurts from thinking.. there's no sign on the truck either! so I don't get it... we'll assume I'm being a dumbass!. The picture in itself is a bit dim lighted. I like the feel of the upcoming storm though. -- I get it now!

Hehehe, norty person! I've done that before.. when I wake up and think it's morning, and time for school, and I got dressed, went out, and it's dark! I like the idea of this picture, but the executiion is a bit rough. There's a huge glare on the top of the photo, which with the no rules, you could have dimmed it nicely :) other than that, it's good :)

funny, but norty motion picture! Is this a set up candid shot? I like it. The background is fairly distracting, and all I wanna do is stare at the lava lamp, cause it seems to be almost the most in focus!

It's norty that you didn't show us her butt! I like the black background, and the subtle lighting to bring out the sign, very clever!
