A blue moon

A blue moon

Comment:
I love the focus and deep colors; the silhouettes are keeping w/theme, and they look (abstractly) to me like a field of celebration under the blue moon. But the vignette is too strong in my opinion (I'm new to this! so please take my opinion in view of that) The vignette is too much, and it also covers up some foreground shadows and blacks that you might have been able to highlight with a transverse filter. The moon in this image, I feel it is appropriate for the image. Do you have any pix of the grass being blurry, with the moon being in focus? How would you achieve that?

Thanks for sharing!

I can see the kitty, and the depth of field; the command over lighting, the correct ISO (low) and low exposure speed for at night. I really like this picture. If you could bring out some of the very, very foreground and sharpen up the cat's outline - including its' eyes, that would be wow. Thx for sharing!

I like the color and richness in this. The intimidating presence of the bull, and the title, I think it is titled well. The colors are balanced IMHO and the terrain, the angles. I can't tell on the focus though - I think it's good, but the richness and darkness in the colors actually loose some of the focus that I can see. If I were editing this awesome image I would not do much to it at all except draw out more contrast to allow enough space for both light and dark spectrums, because right now (to me) the potential of this story seems constrained behind darkness. I think it is a beautiful picture though

Silhouette I

I like the synergy between the movements of the dancers, and the movement in the statues. Nice job of capturing that. The colors are also really nice, and textures. Somehow you captured color and silhouettes in a shot - my critiques would be that the focus could be sharper on the silhouettes (or they could be super blurry with more focus on the other elements) but the focus doesn't change much between them; and also maybe the silhouettes and foreground could have been sharper, and darker or with more contrast. I just love the overall composition though, and it's cool being able to see the people in the background subtlety behind the statues. I would give this a "5.5 - 5.8" but they only allow for 5 or 6

i like this a lot. the symettry between leaves and cloud formations. the contrasts in the land below the leaves are welcoming, like puzzle pieces. It feels a little over exposed? i like the things you have going on in the lower right corner, they look like people or things marching onwards past the frame but can't quite make out what they are! I also like the use of negative (in this case positive?) white/negative space :) I think that the compositional selection of sparse elements is outstanding.

I like this a lot. It presents well conceptually. The only critique I would have is that it is a little out of focus - a nice effect if that's what you meant. Also, that the moon is a bit bright - how cool to have layered maybe? and have the moon be shot with faster shutter, lower ISO and a super fast shutter, while in focus, with the foreground being either blurry, or clear? I dunno, I'm new to photography challenges on DP (new as a photographer) so don't know exactly what to write. The light, on the hand facing the moon, in this photo is beautiful - especially if sharper? thank you for sharing!

I am new to this, so forgive please! I would rate this 5.5 - 5.9. It would be a 6.5 or 7 but for the missed opportunity to capture the full extent of the moon. The birds, limbs, focus, composition, color and contrast are all really beautiful in this. But the moon could have (IMH)) been caught in a second layer, with lower ISO, faster shutter speed and an F number between 3.2 and 5.6. I might have also increased the contrast a bit because there is also some missed opportunity in too much uniformity (again only my opinion!) in the blue's and that could have really been exploited.
Otherwise, I really like this picture a lot, and thanks for sharing.

It's beautiful, and how you have the faces barely visible. The contrast, focus, leaves, the window panes and separation between things. There is a lot of mystery and a certain "come home please" in this. Sort of like, "you're not here right now, so this is all we will let you see; but there's more, just come home" - thx for sharing

I'm new to this (photography and DP challenge) so please take whatever I say in view of that, I'm not sure my "critique" verbiage is written in an acceptable way.

I really like this photograph a lot. On a gut level it feels right because it is balanced, it has clarity that I can focus on, I think it captures "silhouettes" in an interesting way. The large, rock silhouette on the right - it's like a profile shot of an ancient face, it seems to be glowing through the nose and it is touching the sun. It's beautiful. The silhouette of that stonehenge looking formation in the upper-middle left - legs maybe of a giant? very nice. The lighting in the foreground is also very illuminating, I can see the barnacles on the rocks. The lines/depth are following nicely from left to right. If there were any criticism, it might be that some of the image is out of focus - but then again that adds nicely to the dream effect.

If I find myself staring at a picture for more than a few seconds, I have to stop staring and analyze. This is beautiful! The subject matter - a lot of people take pix of themselves with their children. That isn't unusual, and the parents/kids are usually wonderful. But what is so wonderful about this picture to me are the colors, contrasts, the flowing currents between people and nature, the balance between the layers, the framing. It's beautiful. I think the focus is off in places, and that there might be a little more contrast between the elements in it (it seems too soft to me - maybe softness could have been conveyed only on the human subjects) - but this is awesome and thank you for sharing.
