silenced by any meansby KDOComment: What a great way to tie in this site with your class, and a perfect concept for Authority! To your students who thought that the absence of comments was indicative of public indifference, I'd say the downfall of this image was actually a lack of communication, not the message. To me, it's not readily apparent that it's a statement about Native Americans- the subject could just as easily be any minority, or maybe teens in general.
Imagine if you had used stereotypical caricatures as your models: Native American dress, maybe face paint and redder skin (even if it means using makeup). That would make the white hand appear whiter without the need to overexpose, and you could even use a red, white and blue coat sleeve (Uncle Sam) for the hand. If the dress was apparent enough, then you could work in black and white or sepia for an Old West look (more symbolism). THEN you'd get plenty of comments and, with better lighting, maybe a ribbon.
Yes, I understand the situation is just as relevant now as 150 years ago, but it's simply harder to communicate "Indian" without some visual cues that everyone can understand. Keep trying! ;-) |

A Split Secondby typologicComment: Wow! Amazing placement considering how brief this period of time is. Congrats! You really do a great job with backgrounds and lighting- added you to my favorites. ;-) |

7 Lucky 7by ValdoComment: Cool effect (and tough with basic editing), but isn't the top of the dice (10) what you're supposed to consider? I suspect that your score will take another hit for shooting a "picture" of seven rather than seven objects. |

Plucky Duckieby debitiptonComment: Judging from your title, I'd guess you were trying to feature the renegade duck in the back, but he's out of focus. Toys and models tend to score low, but the concept is fine, and a more "serious" background might have helped. |

Feather Council Deliberatesby CamComment: Good find, but the gulls are rather expressionless, and iit looks like you had to really crop a lot- the jaggy edges are fairly obvious. |

A Snails Paceby CarelessComment: Good news: an interesting choice of subject. Bad news: a static, centered composition with soft focus, and the light is leaving a blue cast on the bottom left. I think the shot may have benefitted enormously from an appropriate background- maybe a printed racetrack with a finish line? |
