Greetings from Andi via the Critique Club

Initial thoughts: This is a fun and colourful take on the challenge and meets the challenge title.

Composition: I like the placing of the in focus clog on the rule of thirds lines and the general composition is very nice.

Lighting/Colour (recently calibrated monitor). The colours look nice though the grass is a little dark especially with the lovely light background. The lighting on the clogs is very nice

Focus/Depth of field I think the focus and DOF is spot on, if both the clogs were in full focus the image wouldn't be a good imho. An excellent smooth blurry backgound.

Overall thoughts A fun shot and overall a good entry though I feel the image might have looked cleaner without the foreground flowers. Being in my 'minimilistic' period right now I'd have sat staring at just the background and oof flowers for longer than this image but then it would not meet the challenge lol.

Good luck for future challenges Angela.

Greetings from the Critique Club Maria.

First off welcome to DPC and congratulations on entering your first 2 challenges, its quite a step to parade your work to the dpc masses (we are a fickle bunch sometimes).

I didn't vote in this challenge but would have probably voted this a 4. I like the perspective, the bikes, balloons and the group at the table, but, as a single image its a little messy. Your focus is a little out for my liking and as another commenter mentioned this might work better in colour? Of course, I don't know what lengths you went to in order to take the shot but feel a closer crop on any of the 3 main subjects might have worked better.

That said, you scored a 4.8 on your first challenge so thats a full 0.6 better than me lol. Good luck for the future here at DPC and above all enjoy your photography!

Greetings from the Critique Club Howard.

First off I like your idea, the composition is very good and O personally like the fact there are 3 elements to the image. I'm slightly confused by the depth of field looking at your exif data but quite like the fact that the sharpest part of the image is the message you were trying to convey. Chromatic aberration was mentioned in your comments and think this is an exposure issue? You don't show your editing steps but it looks to me as if you overused the shadow/highlight function in CS3 (or similar).

Was the paper white? I quite like the fact the paper colour merges with the coins here. I didn't vote in this challenge but would probably have skipped past it with a 5 as (for me) it doesn't grab my attention.

Good luck with your future challenges here at dpc.

Greetings from the critique club Pedro!

This is so funny, my first critique in over a year and I get given a red ribbon! And here is a little known fact, you joined DPC on my 50th birthday!

So, to the image, what can I say? your first submission and a red ribbon. This is a great product shot, excellent composition and you got the 'splash' just right. I;ve just read you comment below and yes, the choice of this shoe helped this become a winner as the colours work well with water and it was nice to hear how you worked out the buoyancy.

I have to own up and say I was one of the 42 voters that gave a 6. Why just a 6? whilst its a really good shot I've seen many similar shots (not shoes) so it doesn't have the uniqueness for me that it might have done for others. A niggle I have is the laces and personally I'd have lost them by cutting them down or hidden them in the shoe or had them at full length. The exposure is spot on and the shoe is nice and crisp and if the droplets top left had been super sharp this might have been an 8 from me.

I do hope we see more of the same from you Pedro but you already have a lot to live up to!

Whilst I like the B&W version this seems to have that extra dimension.
