Movie night in 1928by digidoriComment: This movie house lobby has great potential as a lovely subject, It is clearly a difficult one as the poor lighting causes the camera to be set such that you cannot avoid producing digital noise.
There are too many anachronisms in the image to make it convincing for the year you've chosen--the strand of Christmas lights and the numerous, small, computer-printed color posters just give it away. |

35 B.C.by ShamanComment: Holy Roman Empire, Batman!
:-)
(Sorry, I just couldn't help myself.)
I think you've got everything going for the period in this pic. No eveident anachronisms here. The colors are pleasing, the lighting is crisp....it's just not a compelling image. It seems to me to be lacking the kind of information I need to complete the story, to hold my interest--he looks concerned, but what is he reacting to? He holds a pike in one hand, but what's in the hand below the frame? Perhaps in framing to avoid modern-day influences, you have also cut out all meaningful context? |

1952by eweikComment: Now that's a projector!
Prudent use of the star filter.
Lovely rendering of light on the textured surfaces.
The only drawback for this challenge is that one really has to know what they're looking at--wouldn't expect someone opening a time capsule to get it. |

What America Was Built On = Factory Era 1942by JunieMoonComment: Lovely use of monochromatic tones--don't pay any attention to those disturbed by the yellow sky....just pick up a copy of the short story "The Yellow Wallpaper" or read a bit of T.S. Elliott's poem about the yellow smoke wending its way through the industrial alleys of town and you'll quickly ignore your detractors.
Only pitty here, for me, is the street signs. I don't think you would have lost much by cropping in 1/6th from the right. |

Circa 1865by JeileenComment: The tones are lovely in this photo....it's not always easy to render such a convincing black and white using digital.
Unfortunately, the reflective strips interrupt the "dream" of it being anything older than last year's model of an Amish buggy.
I can understand why you didn't want to crop out that appealing little door in the side of the barn, but that choice has left your main subject dead center sapping the energy out of the wide-angle view. |

Time capsule´s front doorby guillamirandaComment: The focus appears to be on the eyelid rather than the eye....usually, in these types of shots, the interest lies on the proverbial "window to the soul" The skin tone could be improved as well--the yellow cast lends an unhealthy feel to the image.
Of course, you have also managed to ignore the entire challenge description which wins you no favor here. |

1969by 4scoreComment: Nicely done! You seem to have nailed the challenge. Not a true black and white as it would have appeared in '69, but I forgive you. :-) |
