stairs of symmetryby AllenComment: This photo has a real aged quality to it - I hope that's the effect you were seeking. I like the symmetry and composition, and I actualy like the aged effect. |

Ventsby ChuckieComment: I'm sure others will say the same, but... I find the angle annoying. I think you should have rotated the image so that the vents, and other framework, were horizontal. Besides that I like what you did with the colouring of this image. |

Fair and Squareby JeanComment: Nice work - keeping to simple bold colours really works well, as does the simple white border. A few black spots are visible in the image (most obviously the green glass) but they are only minor. |

Symmetry in Natureby gigi922Comment: The colour of this shot is wonderful, and the focus is also very good. A very interesting image. |

Double Takeby snsComment: This is a very interesting photo - I love it. I assume it was taken using a long exposure and double flash. The detail is lovely and the graininess is wonderful - especially in the jacket and denim. Well done. |

Melbourne Skyline by GordonComment: Nice work. I love the colour in this photo. The buildings are also very crisp, and the Yarra doesn't look brown in the nighttime. Yes, I'm from Melbourne myself - perhaps you'll recognise my entry, although it isn't as obvious. Well done. |

42nd and Thirdby BeeGeeComment: Critique Club
Composition: I like the composition of this shot. The wide angle shows the height at which this shot was taken from - which is important for the challenge. Obviously it would have been nice if the street ran straight up the photo but this is hard to do without levitating over the road. I really like the bright windows on the left.
Technical Quality: Technically it's a very good image. The colour is very good and there is a lot of detail in the image - without being over sharpened and harsh. The long exposure creates an element of interest, however an even longer exposure might have been better.
Meeting the Challenge: I think the 30th floor definitely qualifies in terms of "from above".
Creativity: I think this picture implies that the world is so large, people are so small. There's also a nice contradiction between the moving traffic and stopped traffic. Of course it's also a nice "Life in NY" type image without any underlying meaning.
Border: I think this image works very well without a border. The buildings around the edges form a border of their own and I think it would be hard to add another border without damaging the image.
Overall: Well done on a fine image. The quality is wonderful and it meets the challenge whilst still being an interesting shot.

Nautical Parkingby JeileenComment: I like the composition, although the bottom right corner would have looked nicer if it was a bit cleaner (which may or may not have been an option you had control over.
I can see a bit of noise in this image, particularly in the sky. Is it a long exposure, or perhaps a high ISO. I think you should see if you can reduce the noise using a filter effect.
The colours on the post and rope are quite interesting - it's a shame it wasn't a bright sunny day though, the background isn't terribly exciting on a cloudy day. Having said that, it does work well to bring attention to the post and rope - they are certainly the focal point. |
