This is nice but the background overpowers the ladybug a little.

Nice idea and I like that the one in the background is a different, cooler color.

Because the background has been removed, there's no way to really tell if this meets the challenge or not. The framing and the cat's expression are interesting, though.

My Shadow on My Body

This has been the funniest challenge for me so far. I was stuck in the house trying to figure out something to do with my shadow and finally came up with something I thought would work. I, too, wish I could have gotten even more contrast but I don't think it's THAT hard to see the hand on the mesh! Lol... the best thing is that the hand, to me, looks like Mickey Mouse's hand, not a human one, and that cracked me up. Ominous Mickey!!! :)

Anyway, thanks for all the comments, especially the wierd ones. :-)

Youth and Age

Now that the voting is over, I can post more about this. It just goes to prove that something which seems totally obvious to one person can be absolutely unclear to another. :) Youth and age go together for me because they are part of an arc which living things go through, if they are lucky to live long enough. In this case, I used the young (just having bloomed) flowers and the old (having sat in the back garden through an entire year's weather) door to represent youth and age abstractly. I appreciated the comments I received because it showed me how unclear my concept was to most people. :) I also thought of a different title, after the fact, which might have worked better - Opposites Attract...?

Lol... it's always very good to have the cockiness knocked out of one's attitude. I thought the image was perfect for this challenge and that the photograph was perfect as is. I knew other people wouldn't necessarily agree with the latter but didn't think anyone would think the concept was out of place so I live and I learn. :)

A Critique Club comment: I already commented on this during the voting period but will try to add some constructive details to this post. The rythm is great, the bamboo and the handle/dragon on the left and leaning towards the right, balanced by the red chops on the right and the open space in bluish gray. I still think the lack of focus on the chops is distracting and not just because I read Chinese. I think it's because it weakens the right side of the image a little bit and takes the eye away from the central subject. Perhaps blurring the background further would have worked better since if the chops were in sharper focus they would take over the image. The clarity of the handle and dragon head are good but the highlights on the dragon's body (near the top) and 'mane' are a little distracting also. Overall, I think it's a good image which would benefit from a little more focus on the dragon without changing it's location in the shot.

I already commented on this when I voted on it but I'll add some further details here. I think this is very effective and love what you did with the eyes... and perhaps the sharper-than-average eye teeth...? I think the changes you made work very well with one exception and that's the hair left on the chin on the left side of the image. Snakes don't have any hair (!) and it's a bit distracting from the overall very powerful impact of you transformed into a reptile.
