| 06/22/2004 05:35:10 PM | Many colors to choose from.by Polar7Comment: well, to be honest i see only three colours, and on a purely personal taste, i don't find any of the cars particularly exciting... sorry. technically though, even considering the lot is well lit, for a night time shot it's nicely sharp, and the deep depth of field works well. i would suggest a couple of things, the first concerns the pre-owned flags. because we see them from the back, eyes are drawn immediately to them in a sub-conscious attempt to decipher the wording, which detracts from the main subjects. however, by simply flipping the image along the horizontal to get a mirrored-copy, the "pre-owned" flags read correctly and are less an alternative point of interest. also, when taking the shot i might be inclined to move closer to the cars, and take a shot along their noses. this would allow you to crop closer to the cars, thereby reducing the amount of concrete filling about a fifth of the shot. 5. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 06/22/2004 05:24:54 PM | La PIazza Dell' Arteby debitiptonComment: this is a very clever use of desat - though i wonder why you elected to to keep her hair with the red highlights and the slightly blue pastelly shirt coloured. i think it might have conveyed more of an impact if all but the artwork was B&W. i love the idea though, and technically the shot passes muster too - focus and composition is top dog! though, being unfairly picky, the patch of white in the extreme lower left corner is a bit distracting. that aside, well done. 8. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 06/22/2004 08:57:49 AM | Battling the wavesby pitsamanComment: if faced with such a shot, i might have been tempted to also extend the desat to the sky (possibly making the sky also darker to avoid blending with the sea and horizon) thereby making the allready bright sail more prominent. i like the near centre composition of the boat, and i greatly like the depth of field - the rolling surf slightly out of focus is (to me) lovely. very likeable and well compoed shot - just needs a trifle more editting in the sky department. 8. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 06/21/2004 09:32:24 AM | Incognito in a world of colourby dhareComment: This is great! i love the centred composition of the fish (nemo?), and it really stands out beautfully from the blurred background. THIS is what selective desat is for, and it's been used to wonderful effect. only thing i would add that isn't praise, is that it looks like it's hanging in air, not water. don't know what it is, but it's almost TOO perfect... maybe the lighting is a little flat? dunno, i still love it to bits. 9. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 06/21/2004 08:54:23 AM | Colourful Mindsby jonpinkComment: well, obviously the view you have chosen is gorgeous - and what is almost a standard tourist type shot has been enhanced a wonderfully exciting sky. my only negatives that come to mind is that sadly the cathedral is a TINY bit off centre, which kind of unbalances the otherwise perfect symmetry, and i'm in two minds about whether or not desat really improves an image of this type. in my limited understanding of photography, i was kind of led to believe that selective desat is supposed to draw your eyes to one particular element. you've stuck with colour to people, which IS a sungular element, but they're all over the place and i find my eyes to-ing and fro-ing trying to take them all in. this is still a very dramatic picture, and in terms of quality and technical merit i would give an 8. however, i personally don't think this is enhanced by the selective desat, so i feel compelled to offer only a 6. |
| 06/17/2004 04:52:35 PM | Paper Clips Unlimitedby rileyComment: it's a great photo, no doubt there, but i think the fingers are a little unnecessary. in fact, it might be better without them. the colours, sharpness, details and MESS of paperclips is visually very appealing, and the fingers are a little alien to the rest. 7. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 06/17/2004 04:29:33 PM | Taste or Health?by ChiquiComment: yeah, like diet pepsi is "healthy". what about fresh orange juice?? or dare i say it, water??? anyway, of all the soda-related drinks this is a better one - i like that only the bottles (indeed, mostly the labels) are in the shot and the detail is nice and sharp. i would note that the bottle in the foreground is a bit yellow in the white areas (another light source would have helped). | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 06/17/2004 04:24:06 PM | Dream Decision- Which Color Viper?by trnqltyComment: don't do it, buy a maserati! only joking - this is a great idea, but unfortunately it seems hampered a bit by things out of your control - like the showroom lighting (distracting on the bonnets) and the stickers on the windscreens... the nose is slightly missing off the black car too - stepping back one or two feet might have helped... that aside; like it! 6. |
| 06/17/2004 04:19:56 PM | Not Quite "100 Soup Cans"...by Toby-DogComment: it's a bit of a pity that you didn't crop this a centimeter or so up from the bottom and the sides - seeing the edges and bottom of your soup wall must be less impressive than a seemingly never ending view? In fact, if you laid a mirror down and erected you tin wall on that, THAT would be cool! however, this does fit the challange, and i like the concept and presentation, though the depth of field is a little too shallow for my liking... 6. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 06/17/2004 03:02:10 PM | Jaguar - Born to Performby labudsComment: gorgeous! i totally adore the leaping cat and the reflection of the cars paintwork. the shine on the chrome is wonderfully perfect, as is the little glints of light. you've masterfully positioned your lens here, well done. in my feeble opinion, i think maybe the badge is a little supefluous, because the cat, bonnet and slightly a bit dest'd background works together wonderfully. i like jags, very proud of them... i think this is an S-Type... i wish they allowed the leaping cats in the UK, they look dead cool... oh - 10. |
