nice! i love the yellow tones and grainy feel of the picture, it feels cinematic, very elegant and rather stylish. it's just a great example of excellent composition, really. the other cab encroaching on our view really enhances the bustle and new yorkness of the scene - lot's of lovely elements. 9.

this is a great, gorgeous picture, which has really been enhanced by your post processing treatment. just eye candy really. the grain is really effective and the detail on the chrome bit is lovely. i can't offer any real criticism because it's really great. though, oddly, i think this might have been enhanced a bit with a border. anyway, really nice - 9

interestingly different vehicle (landies have lots of character, i feel) and i like its yellowness, but i think this picture is suffering a bit from not having the car tack sharp, and also have it's bum cropped off. also, the smallness of the picture doesn't really serve the subject very well. 4.

a very swish and swanky picture, and no mistake. the car is nice and shiny, and is a perfect choice for this sort of picture. the colour of the car also complements the concrete road and the lights. would love to see the setup on this. 9.

very pertinent question, that. this for me warranted a ten out of ten. it's so stylishly a bit mad, that it's impossible but to really like this. the silhuoette works very well, composition cannot be faulted, the orange colours dynamic, very effective and has an immediate pow! factor, and the naturalistic vignettnig / bordering looks great. only minor thing is that spot in the top from the dirty lens / sensor, but frankly, because i think it's dopey not to permit cloning to get rid of such things, i couldn't justifiably dock a point for that. excellent artwork!

Destination: Down Town

Destination: Down Town

Comment:
i have already given this a ten, reason being that it's visually quite stirring and creatively unique in that you're showing a city infrastructure rather than a singular vehicle. the terms "lifeblood" and "a living, breathing, artery" comes to mind. my only slight reservation is the inclusion of the skyline at the back; i admit it's nice, but i think it would feel more claustrophobic and bustly if you cropped just below the skyscrapers (which also give a city an identity, which i think makes the generic term Down Town less effective). but really, it still deserves the ten. the b&w is stylishly gritty and urban, the vanishing point nature of the lines of the road and tracks are very visually pleasing, the damp and slightly reflective surfaces add another good dimension. and given the noir-ish nature of elevated trains, i don't find this remotely grim; it's a hopeful image, and one showing a city working. i love it; it's stimulating, evocative, and also deceptively simple.

i gave this a 10. to be honest, as an image there are a couple of minor things wrong with it; i feel that some elements are too dark (rear lights especially) and the small signs above the bootlid are a minor distraction. however, it's still totally stonking and really got a cor! out of me. the sepia works splendidly, the angle is superb. i love the level of grain, it adds so much style. the lighting actually does work well; the chrome is nice and shiny, and the reflection on the side of the rear wing is beautiful. a really stunning car image, stylistically rich and character.

Gone SHOPPING!

This was one of my favourite five pictures of the challenge, and i'm astounded that a) mine was the only ten, and b)you finished 139th! this is a remarkably fantastic, artistic and stylish image, beautifully composed, infectiously enjoyable, and is a total treat. the happiness and warmth and joy in the shot is wonderful. the bright colours superb and fitting. i agree completely with hotpasta, but i feel that the people who knocked this because of the adventurous crop alone are incredibly short sighted. with the head intact, it would make for a less dynamic shot and possibly not quite as well balanced. so, go you!

Train meets car

Train meets car

Comment:
a longer exposure would have better lit the environment i think, though the train would be a bit of a blur. without adequate street or artificial lighting, it is damn nigh impossible to get a well illuminated shot. as it is, this shot suffers in that there is no real focal point immediately for attention, though taking it as one composite whole isn't easy either. the light haze from the train is really cool, and the capture of the lights is great in that it is lit up by the train. actually, this owuld be a whole lot better on the eye if the car wasn't in the shot. 3.

Comment:
okay, so you might get shot if you jumped over the fence, but still, the fence is a major distraction and totally detroys your shot. it does add to the militaristic sense indicated by the wording of your title, creating a boundary between the civilian world and that of the armed forces, but it obscures our view too much. composition is everything in a picture, it really is - 3.
