Hi there, Joe. I love the bright colors and the crisp white in this image, I think those factors account for the higher scores you received during this challenge. The lower scores, however, in my opinion were likely based on composition and lack of "wow". Compositionally, your subjects are just laying there - even looking a little flat. You mention they were pencil puppets - what if you had posed them upright, as if they were interacting with one another. I think giving your subjects a sense of action would have improved your score greatly.

Hi there! :)

I see some very strong points in this image, particularly the focus being quite deliberate. I also like the shadow of the Pi shape. What I don't like, however and what I think held your votes back is that there is a good bit of digital noise and the blacks are not crisp black and whites crisp white. Brighter light overall or a higher ISO would be two possible solutions to give you a cleaner, more crisp image.

Hi Melissa,

I'm very glad you like this image and sometimes that's all that matters. Please keep in mind that challenges and what you love can be two completely different things and they shouldn't be mixed. This, while a nice image just didn't speak to the challenge, and scored rather low because of that. The same image in a sunset challenge may have scored better.

For the shot itself, try adding a bit of contrast to get the darks a little darker and I think you'll find a very pleasing image.
