Playa Vista 4th Fireworks

Your image definitely met the challenge, fireworks and the 4th of July go hand in hand. The red color and those silver tail bursts are wonderful. For me that bit on the right side where more smoke was captured did take away a bit. The city buildings were also so small that I almost thought I may have enjoyed the image more had it been cropped to just include the sky. The city lights felt almost more random since I couldn't identify them with particular buildings and so that light seemed to compete, rather than complement, the light of the firework. (The light of the fireworks is very geometric, when city lights are also very geometric to my brain they work well together but here the lights of the city aren't very geometric - I'm not sure I'm explaining myself very well, sorry.) The smooth water is pretty. Made me wonder if there was a reflection that I wasn't seeing.

So I saw a solid entry to the challenge. It seems to have been your only challenge entry, sure hope you come back.

I actually commented on this shot after voting, it connected with me in some manner.

Your shot definitely met the challenge and the fireworks are wonderful. The people filling the scene added interest for me - I always love looking at what people are wearing, how they are standing, what type of interactions are going on, etc. So your shot gave me plenty of opportunity to hang around looking at your picture and thinking about what was going on. If getting people to stay longer with your shot is a goal, you had success with me.

I agree with a couple of the other commenters that the blurry/moving building is a bit distracting. Cropping out the largest building would have eliminated some of the awesome people and that cool blue chair, but possibly would have made for a stronger entry. The voting crew here seem to be sticklers on things being in focus (unless it's for an artsy, abstract type image) but I think you did quite well in the challenge for a tough night shot without a tripod.

Hello from the Critique Club.

I liked this image and gave it a 6 during voting. I had seen the bird seed as sand and thought the 'waves' were lovely. The single child in the photograph added to its impact for me. The only thing that I didn't love about the image was the bare pink space behind the child. I'm not sure I can think what you might have done about it if this was a found shot. But overall I thought the image was a strong entry for the Art challenge.

Man, this should have been on the front page imho. I love this. I suppose it is a bit abstract to the challenge topic, so maybe not everyone loved it. But it was just so well executed. The softness coming out from the bottle is beautiful.
