Challenge: 4th of July Celebrations (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Canon EOS-700D Rebel T5i
Location: New Smyrna Beach, Fl
Date: Jul 4, 2014
Aperture: 5.0
ISO: 100
Shutter: 2.5
Date Uploaded: Jul 6, 2014

This photo was taken impromptu when we went to the beach to watch some fireworks, to my astonishment, there were so many people watching homemade fireworks shows. I wanted to take some long shutter speed pics of fireworks, but did not have tripod, so had to balance long shutter speed with having to take it handheld. Lightened shadows and blacks to bring the people in focus on a somewhat underexposed picture. Appreciate any critique you can give me. Using lightroom to edit, working on learning photoshop.

Hello from the Critique Club.

I actually commented on this shot after voting, it connected with me in some manner.

Your shot definitely met the challenge and the fireworks are wonderful. The people filling the scene added interest for me - I always love looking at what people are wearing, how they are standing, what type of interactions are going on, etc. So your shot gave me plenty of opportunity to hang around looking at your picture and thinking about what was going on. If getting people to stay longer with your shot is a goal, you had success with me.

I agree with a couple of the other commenters that the blurry/moving building is a bit distracting. Cropping out the largest building would have eliminated some of the awesome people and that cool blue chair, but possibly would have made for a stronger entry. The voting crew here seem to be sticklers on things being in focus (unless it's for an artsy, abstract type image) but I think you did quite well in the challenge for a tough night shot without a tripod.

Keep up the interesting work.

Nice job for working without a tripod. Neat scene for sure.

The fireworks and scene are great. The blurry buildings are off-putting.

It's like a finally won battle. I ,like the combination of sandy people tired and clad as if just came from the war and crisp fire designs that they thoroughly ignore.
As a small detail, i would crop half buildinglg on the left
