I also think the unedited version is better in this case. It avoids the halo around the hawk. Heavy processing puts me off, but that's my opinion and not everyone is so puristic.
The story is a good one, the picture less so.

Nice contrast between the sharp lines in the bubble, and the bokeh background. The colors bring it all nicely together. Your careful framing adds interest.

I am with Ann on this one. The brightest part is where the eye goes first, yet that does not define the subject.
On a personal note I struggle most in a still life with the transition of a three dimensional setup into a two dimensional photograph. Placing your objects in real life to get them where you want them in the photograph is an art in itself.

Nicely framed, and well captured. Shoes, coat, hairdo, gloves and background all look very old fashioned. Cell phone betrays him as a 21st century citizen.

Great story, and most embarrassing.
Strange light with the blue hue on the side of the truck, yet a balanced backside that looks more neutral, and a reddish background. Impossible white balance, which adds to the strange atmosphere.

Without your description this looks like a military structure to me, a turret on a lookout. With barbed wire along the edges. Grey and dull as it should be. With searchlights ready to turn and capture the enemy.
