"The Little [Car] Engine That Could" by Watty Piper (1930)
by Lydia

Comment:
I'd have liked to see more even exposure or lighting so that we could see the details of the side of the engine. It'd also have worked better, IMO, if the engine actually looked little.

To the Lighthouse, by Virginia Wolfe

Comment:
This photo gets the lighthouse part, but I think a human subject walking to the lighthouse would've fulfilled the "To the" part of the title.

Midnight At The Oasis

Comment:
One expects to see an oasis in a desert, and to see water in that oasis, so I had a hard time connecting the title to the photo.

The Pelican Code

Comment:
This photo conveys the pelican, but not the code. You'd have to get pretty creative to convey the code idea, to give it a sense of mystery.

Kafka on the Shore

Comment:
As someone who hasn't read this book, I had no idea what a cat paw has to do with the title. I think with a challenge like this, the title and the photo need to connect for those who haven't read the book. If it also connects for those who have read the book, so much the better.

The clock

The clock
by whiterook

Comment:
I think this would've worked better with a more unique or remarkable clock, or at least getting adventurous with how you display the clock: an unusual angle or lighting would've made a more dramatic photo.

Comment:
This isn't bad, but the white is a bit distracting. Considering the book, I'd have liked a darker image, with some sense of decay to hint at the post-apocalyptic nature of the story.

I think this photo would've worked well if there were an actual woman instead of a picture of one.

Born Digital: Understanding the First Generation of Digital Natives
by hahn23

Comment:
With this photo, I didn't feel the message was being completely portrayed. It is a shot of children, which speaks to "the First Generation" but nothing speaks to them being "Digital Natives". A bunch of kids playing with laptops/ipads/iPhones would've been a bit more on target, I think.

I, Robot

Comment:
I think the subject of this photo could've worked, but the composition didn't work for me, nor did the blurriness or grain. I think with a shot like this, you might try it with a tripod and ISO of 100. A less distracting background would've helped too. Everything in the photo should serve to draw attention to the robot, the title is, afterall "I robot".
