Cabooseby JoelHSmithComment: Nice crisp shot. It looks just a tad over-exposed on my calibrated monitor. I think I would have bumped up the the levels just a bit. |

Oops!by cbellerComment: Thanks for all the comments. I will say, I was inspired by Swish! by alansfreed. Since I didn't have time to enter the technique used in the Photogs Comments before the challenge, here it is.
Dark room with a black backdrop and one light shining from the left side. I tied black thread to the tab of the can so I could raise and lower it. I set the shutter to one seconded and used rear curtain flash. With the camera on a tripod, I tripped the self-timer and ran over and lifted the can into the air and tried to steady it. The shutter opened, I quickly lowered the can down, the the flash fired to get the nice sharp capture of the can. I cropped out the top that had my hand, and also the bottom where you could see the table. Then there was the black line going up the blur, where the string was, so I cloned that out and adjusted the levels & contrast and I was done.
I would have liked to have cleaned the image up a bit more, but I didn't have enough time, as I only had about 15-20 minutes to edit and upload this. |

Public Telephone Boxes by redmoonComment: Actually, yours is no where near as sharp and is very overexposed. Stop getting jealous because someone else had a similar idea as you, but did it better.

Not exactly unique.
I published an almost identical picture on the FujiMugs challenge just four weeks before this one appeared.
This mine at //www.fujimugs.com/challenge/show_entries.php?challenge=17&entry=1548. Now I believe in coincidences but...

Hi Sally!
Positives:
The crop is good and even and the archways in the background are aligned nicely. Nice textures, with the brick and stone walkways. Meets the challenge well.
Possible Improvements:
Lighting is a bot harsh, as folks mentioned below, the background area and fountain is a bit overexposed. Since you are using natural light, I would suggest either taking the photo earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon. You could also try using a neutral density filter or polarizer to help with this. Colors are also just a bit dull, which I think a polarizer might help correct.
Overall, this is interesting photo that with just a little correction on the exposure, would be a great photo.
Good luck in your future challenges.
