These flowers are beautiful with the relatively low contrast, but I'd like to see how they'd look with a higher-contrast background. I think it would change the mood of the picture entirely -- not sure whether that would be good or bad.

I read a book once that mentioned that if you want to portray the idea that a person likes crossword puzzles (as an example), a more abstract picture of glasses, a pencil, and a crossword puzzle depicts that far better than a portrait of the person doing a crossword puzzle. That's a random aside. This image reminds me a lot of that article; the portrait I see is of a parent or grandparent who loves to read to a child. I like this picture a lot. It's very poignant, and the composition is well done.
