The Hierophant

The Hierophant

I'd give this one a ten just because I don't think I've ever heard someone say etymologically.
The devil's advocate would say it looks like he's trying to hide his holey.
The ornithologist would ask why "he" has a holey.
The philosopher would ask why you're trying to shoot his holey.
And I just really can't get past that. Why were you trying to shoot his holey?

Anyways, typical adjective for owls: "wise"
Rough translation of hierophant: The one who shows you the way
Anyways, lose the border and I'd say it's top 10.
The High Priestess

The High Priestess

The two-light setup reflection in her eyes says basic editing..
But the vibrance in her tats says advanced editing. Well done.

However, the image says "the fool" and the caption says "high priestess". The image is wonderful, but I'm unclear what relation this woman has with the "high priestess". The high priestess is a very sobering, somber card. This is neither.

This entire image is completely devoid of depth. Except for the cloud. The modesty and humility of this image moved me.

Oh, and as for the tilted comment - yes, I find the image to be significantly off. It seems like it might be flat relative to the horizon which makes the mountain look not only "off", but difficult to focus on. The cloud is even worse. The composition, on the other hand, which is what the eye of any true photographer will see, is perfect.

Perhaps the other voters didn't notice, but I think this is too subtle to ribbon. Take a deep breath before you look at it - it's perfect.
The Fool

The Fool

Comment:
First of all, the cleavage issue. The female fool is not a dignified woman; do your research!
Second, a fool would NEVER wear purple.
Third, the lack of even lighting makes her look like a man.

Back to the cleavage issue, she's not 19. If you're 25 or older, it's not called cleavage; it's just a low-cut shirt.

Oh and fourth, I can't think of a way to possibly improve this image. It's amazing and it captures the essence that it was meant to capture as well as it could be captured. Beautiful image and the photographer in me wants to meet the model because we all could use a model that's not only beautiful, but has the guts to pose in any pose we ask for any shoot we ask. Could anyone else have executed this particular shoot this well? Doubtful. Aside from photographic and historical accuracy, this model is obviously quite an amazing person as well. I'm glad to have the opportunity to observe her at work; it's changed my perception of the concept of a model completely. Excellent work, yo_spiff and my hat is off to the model.

HOLY HELL DEATH IS A GIRL????
How did you even get that spot? Ridiculous!!!

A stellar image. I would have lit the candle and shot with ambient light + slight fill flash, but heinsight is 20/20. This image makes me feel like all the happiness is gone from the world. Love it. Amazing. Awesome.

Wheel of Fortune

This better show up in learn->how\'d they do that. It\'s rare for a photograph to just seem completely separate from the laws of light, but you\\\\\\\'ve done it.

Now, one problem: DNMC. I\'m sure you did your research before you went to all this work. You don\'t look like a girl. WoF card must have a girl. Also, I don\'t see TARO or ROTA. Nor do I see all four elements or the fates or really anything related to the wheel of fortune tarot card.

That\'s unfortunate because this is a spectacular image.

So let us know just how exactly it is that this image has ANYTHING to do with the WoF TC.

Thoroughly average worldly old man picture.

However, unlike a gypsy or any other 3rd world oddity, this is just a regular guy in a costume. You found a regular guy - someone just like you or me - and made him look like a star. You took Joe and made him in to King Henry.

How often do you get to do that?

If my seer were to draw the tower, I would feel exactly how this image makes me feel. Visually appealing? Sure. But anyone can do that. You've managed to capture an image that crosses over from the visual to the kinesthetic. If I printed tarot decks for a living, I'd ask if I could put this on the back of the tower card. Congratulations - it's perfect.

Few images have more potential than this. Bet it would have ribboned if you would have called it 'Satan Starts his Day' :)
The reflections and the way the soft composition melts into the background is, while almost dreamy, the antithesis of coffee.

However, the uniqueness of the mug and the lipstick - damn I love that lipstick - really make the image.

Also, +250 points if that's a french press in the BG.

I would have lit this photo from behind just as you did, although it would have been nice if it were a little less obvious the flash was behind the booze bottle. That and the odd fade of the background detract from the image.

Don't let it get you down though - best composition yet! Without critiquing your style it's an easy 10. The odd lighting and the border that matches the color of the coffee when the subject of the photo is obviously the booze are the only things imho that kept this image from earning a ribbon for its photographer.
