Memento Mori

Memento Mori means Remember Death. During the time of Holocaust of Hungarian Jews they were herded to the banks of river Danube, forced to get off their shoes and then shot one by one into the icy river.

This is a monument of this tragedy made of a row of sculptured shoes not far away from the building of Hungarian Parliament.

The picture was taken at very high water and very dull weather, and I tried to make it look a bit like the photos taken in those times of the winter 1944-45 (Levels, Hue/Saturation, Colorize, Shadows/Highlights,Contrast USM)

Thanks everybody for their votes and comments, I was very happy reading them. I guessed you would be a little puzzled, but after all quite a many of commenters have found out that this is in connection with death somehow or other. This makes favor to the picture and to the commenters themselves as well: DPC teaches us not only to take better photos, but to read and understand the subtle language of pictures as well. Thanks to all of you!

This must be in Eastern Europe! there are vehicles running here in similar state to this day! I'm afraid over-exposure has washed a bit the colours but I like it!
