This would be a very high-ranking photo if it were technically better (i.e. clearer, and without the color haze at the edges of object borders). Nice shot though.

I think you should have scored higher, although I'm not surprised that it didn't. Don't be discouraged by the rankings - this photo has a lot of merit. And any "imperfections" in the pattern you've captured really don't matter to me because this is a photograph of a real environment - it definitely does not have a doctored "post-card" feel to it. And at the same time you've got amazing fractal-like patterns in there. It's got the magic of reality rolled into a photo.

Just to explain the small peak of lower scores for this photo, although it is technically good, I think others, like me, found the image as a whole unappealing. In other words, I look at it and don't think: "What a clean photo that shows off texture"; I think: "I would never want to eat this abnormally veined, gray cabbage, and I want better presentation of it" -- it's a little unsettling.

This is a beautiful capture of color and pattern. You've got extreme detail patterned around a simple theme. It's hard to choose, but this gets my top vote for the week because of composition and uniqueness.
