A helping hand.by JayneRyanComment: We raised her from a very tiny baby after her family was blown up by angry farmers! We are licensed rehabilitotors. She will stay with us about another year (baby beavers stay with their families about 2 years) then we will find a suitable and safe place for her to go and live in the wild as a released beaver. She is not confined and may leave of her own accord at any time but we have a pond and everything she needs here for right now. Just not other beavers for her to socialize with. :-) |

I raise and/or rehabilitate orphaned critters! by JayneRyanComment: Okay. These are three orphaned Great Horned Owlets. We currently have 5, plus 3 Barred owlets and 3 Screech owlets. We also have 2 Pileated woodpecker chicks and a Blue Jay chick. On the mammal side we have an orphaned baby beaver and an orphaned baby red fox cub! As you can imagine it is more like a full time job than a hobby, but I love it! :-)
My husband is a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and has the only migratory bird license in the state of Arkansas. He is also a vet! Only one person per household is allowed to hold the license but I have WAY more hours than are required to have my own. I am assured that if anything were to happen to my husband I would be given a license. Last year we built a flight cage that is large enough for eagles to fly in. We call it the Creathedral since it resembles a cathedral is is just as huge! :-) |

The Kings of South Georgiaby JayneRyanComment: Yes we did visit Shackleton's grave. Toasted the man himself. We also visited Elephant Island where he was shipwrecked in Antarctica and had to leave men to go for help in a lifeboat. A British member of our expedition team re-enacted that voyage in a replica of the lifeboat with only what Shackleton would have had with him! Clothing, food etc! An epic voyage accross the southern ocean from Antarctica to South Georgia. |

The Kings of South Georgiaby JayneRyanComment: Thank you everyone for the lovely comments. It really was an amazing experience. We did Falkland Islands, South Georgia and Antarctica. The brown penguins are juvenile Kings! Sailors who first saw them thought they were a separate species and called them Oakum Boys!
Go see it all before it is gone! |
