-Ostracized-by GarryComment: I love the editing on this. So dark and gloomy, but in an appealing way. I also love the contrast between the door and the person, the visual weight is on the door, which just further brings home the point you are trying to convey. 7 |

Social Networkingby gyabanComment: Gyaban, you mentioned in the thread that you were surprised at how low this is scoring. Here are my thoughts on possibilities why:
All of the technicals are perfect, as all of your images are. I would say that for this challenge, they might be too perfect. People voting don't really want to see exquisite lighting and focus. While these aspects are allowed, they should be the means to an end. While you are clearly trying to convey a point or raise questions in the viewer, ultimately the main subject of this picture ends up being the perfect studio set up, even if you didn't intend it.
Ultimately, I believe it is your background that lets you down. Its too "studio" and makes the image appear contrived, forced into fine art bounds so to say. I believe people might be lowballing you for it. Having her lie on grass or sand, or possibly standing by a brick wall, would have made this image more natural and I believe it would have scored higher. Even a plain black background would have been better.
Thats just my opinion of why I think you are being disappointed by the score of this image. I personally am giving you a 6. I value the attempt that was made at making me think about social networking, and it is of course well photographed. As I have mentioned, this is too technically perfect for me. It becomes almost clinical, and makes it almost impossible to make an emotional connection with it. This is a picture I could study at length to figure it out, but I wouldn't feel anything.
I hope you find this comment helpful and I certainly hope I haven't offended you. I am about 90% sure this is your image, and if not...ummmm, ooops! *runs away and hides* |

Wujiby JuliBocComment: I like this. I can definitely see this hanging on a wall somewhere. Perhaps not my wall, but maybe a surfer shop. I like the bright muted colors, but would wish that a little more of the shell was in the frame. 7 |

Sanguineby Yo_SpiffComment: Doesn't really strike me as fine art. What message, emotion, or thought is this supposed to convey to me? Why should I glance at it for more than a second? The answers to these questions is what determines fine art to me.
I do like the colors and the composition. 5 |

Essence of Lifeby dtremainComment: Very visually pleasing, I like it! I think the conversion to black and white was a very good decision. 7 |

Prophesyby AliciaComment: This is gorgeous and definitely something I would hang up on my wall. I love the rays of light, and the composition of the birds is very pleasing. Not to mention the squiggly reflections in the water, which is very interesting. 9 |

Wind Up Ballerinaby timfythetooComment: I really love the idea of the piece and the general feel with the matching pastel pinks throughout the image. However, the turny thing (lol, sorry I don't know what its called) is far too obviously made out of cardboard, and that really brings the image down in my opinion. I would have made the inside edges smoother, or at the very least tried to smooth it out in photoshop. Anyways, besides that its a great idea and really well executed. 6 |

Nudeby epescalaComment: Very nice angle and lighting. I would have cloned out the hairs that are on the knee. Even though they are strands from the head, it gives the illusion of really long leg hair, which is gross. I love the composition, with the diagonal foot giving a means out of the frame. 7 |
