A Bright Spot in the Storm by sjhulsComment: This is such a difficult challenge to vote in. In my mind when I hear the word focus I am thinking depth of field has to play a role otherwise how else do we know what the camera has really focused on. This picture is great for a challenge like "Point of Color" and it would have gotten a 9 from me (not 10 because I am not too crazy about the processing style), however I realize that there are many interpretations of this whole focal point thing. In this image everything is in focus and your subject stands out due to significant difference in color compared to the rest of the image not due to it being in focus and the rest of the image not being in focus and because of that my eyes do travel all over the picture and doesn't rest just on your main subject. Very difficult challenge to shoot for and vote in due to various interpretations of the theme. I just gave you my interpretation. Also the bright white snow and the clouds in the background are another reasons that the viewer's eyes are not let to rest on your main subject (those whites keep pulling my eyes away too). I am giving this a 7. Good luck. It should do well. (This is the longest comment I have written for somebody since I joined DPC) |

The last drop of water by IreneMComment: Missed having you around. Miss your work. You picked up where you left off. You made a very ordinary subject look incredible. Wishing you a speedy recovery and hopefully you will get back to doing what you love doing best soon. Keep clicking! |

Not the first ( whiteroom has achieved this), but a rare achievement indeed. I was shocked to see this win a blue. I thought this photo was for me. ;) |
On which shot? I don't see it. |

No selective blur was added, it was the super-shallow depth of field (f/1.2) that created the out of focus area :) |

Librodo Magicby JudiComment: Like this pic a lot, I just wish those flowers didn't stick out behind you like that in all kinds of directions. I would think it might cost you some points because of it. I would have kept those flowers a little farther back so that they would fade some more due to the shallow DOF or just kept them all on one side of you (still farther back). They unfortunately distract the viewers because of where they are. Love your makeup and all the hard work you have put into it. You look beautiful! |
