Misty Morning by librodoComment: Originally posted by Azrifel: Originally posted by darcy: But I have to ask, how can your aperature be so large - 1.8 - when your depth of field seems to be so deep. Doesn't a large aperature usually give a shallow depth of field? |
"At a fixed aperture, focussing at a greater distance brings more of the foreground and background into the zone of sharpness." quote from National Geographic's Photography Field Guide.
The usual dramatic small DOF of a 50mm @ F1.8 is mostly seen with portraits shot from a relative close range. The focus point here is considerably further away. |
True, take a look at this page...
The online dof calculator: //dfleming.ameranet.com/dofjs.html
For example, if you have the lens set at 28mm, f/1.8 and you focus on a spot 20meters away then you get sharp image between 10.5-216.9 meters.
Just check out the online dof calculator. It´s a cool tool! |

Drum Roll, Please!by jmleliiComment: Nice capture, not much of a silhouette though... Some noise evident in his face that distracts a little. |
