Quite honestly, I probably shouldn't be voting this as high as I am. Like you care if I vote it high! :-) But I'm doing so because of whatever it is at the end of the road. There's something in that figure that looks like a lion or one of the other big cats leaping across the weeds in the road. Just waiting for me to walk down there and bring me to the end of my road. ;-)

The subject matter here is great, but that curb over on the side kind of detracts. Did you consider a horizontal format that would either include just the road and "sign" (and cut out the curb) or one that showed more of the road going off into the distance (and would include curb, sky, cars, whatever)? Since this is so monochromatic anyway, you might also want to consider making it B&W -- or at least tweaking the levels. :-)

Traffic light? This is so abstract, I'm not entirely certain. I had to keep coming back to this before that idea hit me as to what it might be and how it fit the challenge. And even then, I'm not sure I'm right. So, in terms of the challenge, I'd have to say this could be better. As a photo in its own right, it's very interesting.

Very nice. I'm hoping he didn't have as far to haul his saddle as the photo makes it look. My only "I wish" with the photo is that the plant on the left edge weren't there. Maybe it's because his shadow leads directly to it, but I look at it more than I think it deserves. It also makes the photo feel a touch less barren. Very minor, though, and I'm being nitpicky.

Admittedly, I don't know what the background would do if you shot this way, but I would have been very tempted to shoot the humor of the lower sign straight on so you wouldn't be able to read the "exit only" sign. This reminds me very much of a cemetery my parents were doing some genealogical work at and the sign at the bottom of the road said, "Dead End."

As it stands, the photo just seems a little busy in the background -- and the cemetery sign is a little hard to read -- I think because the left end has light colored leaves directly behind it -- the other end of the sign, with the darker background, is easier to read. Anyway, fun shot.

OK, I don't know your camera so what I'm about to suggest may be entirely useless. I think, instead of going for the entire manhole cover, that you could have gone for a more interesting look by getting closer and only showing a portion of the whole. Maybe the tree, the pattern surrounding it, the date, and a little of the road? As it stands, the perfectly centered oval just doesn't do much for me.

I like it. The colors feel a little washed out/too light. More important than that, however, I think it needs to be rotated a few degrees clockwise. Everybody's leaning a little to their right.

I appreciate the way you used the tree and specifically those branches to frame the mountain, but I think it's almost too much framing. This is also really busy -- my eye doesn't really know where to go. Apart from the silhouetted tree in the foregound, the rest of the shrubbery just kind of blends into this patterned gray -- I almost didn't even see the river at first. OK, so a lot of crtiticism with no suggestions... It's because I'm having a hard time coming up with any for this photo specifically. Everything I start to write has to do with taking another picture, and that's not fair. There's a good range of tones, the focus is good, etc etc etc, it just doesn't work for me. So, instead of running off at the mouth, I'd be happy to discuss it later after voting.

For those who are interested, Grevy is the name for the kind of zebra pictured. I wanted to use the zebra's name, but couldn't track down the information.

I really like the photo a LOT. If I had to find anything wrong, I'd point out the couple of water drops that are kind of "flat," but it's so minor, it's part of the easter egg hunt.
