Sidewalk Cafeby SammieComment: The harsh highlights combined with the murky shadows seriously detract from the image. The highlight on the guy's hand / chin is quite distracting. Since the couple seems to be the focus of the image the DOF should have been shallow enough to render the guy with the shiny glasses as a shadowy blob. The clutter on the left side of the image seems to serve no purpose. Even if all these technical issues were fixed I'm still not convinced I'd find the couple particularly interesting. |

In the Eyes of a Childby jenesisComment: The contrast seems a little low &/or the shot is slightly underexposed. A catchlight would have really helped to emphasize his eyes. As it is I can't see any clear boundary between his iris and pupil. |

Wanna cigarette, sir?by DibutilComment: This feels more like a "I bumped the shutter button while stepping off of the bus" shot than a premeditated candid. The B&W does add a somewhat more refined air to the picture though. |

Focusby ZoomdakComment: This is one of those cases where a little more motion blur would have helped your score. I think that I may have preferred to see this with the background only partially desaturated. |

Kjetil Rekdalby terjeComment: The strong shadow under his chin bothers me, as does the odd glow where the image meets the border. |

Hanging Aroundby ArtanComment: If the challenge topic was "open spaces" or something similar I'd give this high marks. As it is the people-like things are little more than black specks. |

Different Outlooksby MarjoComment: Due to the unfortunate angle the outlooks seem to be from inside the carriage and from inside the horse's hindquarters. Since the rest of the image looks static, the lone blurry hoof stands out a bit too much.

Breeze by PhilosComment: This picture looks a touch grainy, but otherwise a very solid entry. |

Carl in Thoughtby mikasiComment: "Well let's see here. I remember takin' something out of the glass on the dresser and puttin' it in my mouth this mornin', but I also had to gum my way through the runny eggs at breakfast. I sure hope that I didn't just swallow another goldfish..."
This guy's face hints at an interesting personality. I can't help but think that you could have caught him at a more flattering moment though. |
