Waitingby steve100Comment: The unfortunate over sharpening hurts this image in a major way. A great concept and a good capture should have been left alone to stand on it's own merits. There is a lot of impact here and from an artistic standpoint, it's nearly perfect. Unfortunate. |

Old Train Yardby ArmyRugbyComment: This is one time where the flatish sky works well with the overall concept. Nicely figured with plenty of detail, a great conversion to black and white, proper shade and tone control, this should rate highly and is a potential ribbon winner. One minor nitpick would be with the DOF - a little vagueness in the background would have helped a little, but it's near perfect as it is. Well done. |

A Green Rideby angkokwengComment: This image is both a technical and artistic success. The incredible highly detailed look of the background and the compare and contrast concept between height and depth is amazing. The color difference between foreground and background just increase it's visual impact. This should place very high if not a ribbon winner. Well done. |

No Passengers Permittedby radarbratComment: The lighting is a little too soft and the sky is flat which detracts from what could have been a top entry into the challenge. Just shy of being a technical and artistic success. A good solid entry into the challenge. |

Morning train to Ballerat - Southern Cross Stationby millsaComment: A good solid entry into the challenge with no major flaws. This could very well be a stock shot for a brochure or advertisement. A few minor flaws like being overly busy at the top, but the use of space is effecive. Little light blooms near the right center top are distracting. A good solid entry into the challenge. |

Rail Road Relicby rpethelComment: A great concept and a near perfect capture. The lighting could have been a little softer, but as it is, it works well. Both a technical and artistic success, this should place high for it's technical merit and artistic impact. The image is a little small to provide a good look at theinteresting details. This would have been a better image in grayscale or black and white. A good solid entry into the challenge. |

The wheel's on the train go round and round!by jdixonsdComment: A great concept and a near perfect capture. The lighting could have been a little softer, but as it is, it works well. Both a technical and artistic success, this should place high for it's technical merit and artistic impact. Little minor issues are over shadowed by the reflections which add a nice little touch. It could use a little better focus. A good solid entry into the challenge. |

RER Cby thierr26Comment: A very competant image of a passenger train, this image does not suffer from any major flaws and is a complete technical success. From an artistic standpoint, it fails to evoke any sort of interest or feeling either negative or positive. This image would be a good stock shot for use in a brochure or advertising material. A good entry into the challenge. |

Silent Whistle Howlin'by RefreshComment: This is a great concept and from a technical perspective, a success. The image is right on the edge of being over sharpened which is a plus. This may have suffered from flash reflection as the silica in the rail bedding material creates a speckled effect similar to hot pixels even though that isn't the problem - its very similar to what you get with snow in that the crystals reflect light at odd angles. From an artistic point of view, it falls just short of the mark of being excellant. A sound entry into the challenge and it should place well. |
