Out of Serviceby bjoernComment: A great idea that matches the title well. A little more DOF control would have made this a much better image and conveyed the nature of the subject matter more effectively. The focused area is perfectly detailed and the ambient light very well managed, but the short focus detracts from it's overall impact. Certainly a worthy effort in the challenge and if the DOF effect had been made better use of, it would have been a top ten image and a possible ribbon winner. |

Solo for the V-Trainby jeroweComment: Lots of details, good angle which shows off the linear nature of the station supports and roof. Unfortunately, it could have used some more tension by getting a little closer to the passenger staring at the wall. The image could have used a little better crop keeping the entire image in sharp relief rather than the fade - the DOF fade doesn't quite work well in this image. The overall monotone to the image works well. A good entry into the challenge. |

--== All Aboard!! ==--by apangestikaComment: There is always a temptation to over critique an image where the author attempted to pull off a good idea, but lost sight of the technical problems being faced in the effort. Shooting into bright light from a dark area is always tricky and in this case, fell short. The overall image is flat and all the unique details inherent in the passengers and station conductor is lost against the flat undetailed sky. This might have worked better shooting into the dark from the edge of the light rather than vice versa. |

Texas & Pacific Depotby npaselComment: Crisp and sharp which is a major plus. Lots of details, good angle which shows off the linear nature of the times and roof, but showing off the squarish shape of the curves of the building face. The author took time to do the best job in difficult lighting as the highlights are right on the edge of being over done. Unfortunately, the saturation is underwhelming and with the flat undetailed sky, it is not as attractive as it could have been. A worthy entry into the challenge. |

63rd St (Lexington Ave Line)by supacohenComment: Crisp and sharp which is a major plus - a good grayscale. Lots of details, good angle which shows off the linear nature of the times and roof, but keeping the curving sweep into the distance. The author took time to do the best job in difficult lighting as the highlights are right on the edge of being over done. Unfortunately, it could have used some more "action" and if the author had taken a little more time to catch a sense of speed with the oncoming train, along with reducing the foreground tile flares, it would have been perfect. Well done. |

Bally Tramby Anthony_D_ArcherComment: Crisp and sharp which is a major plus and a very interesting use of DOF. Lots of details, good angle which could have been a little lower, but it fine as it is. The author took time to do the best job in difficult lighting. The lights are right on the edge of being overdone. A unique and interesting look using a very inventive and different technique. A top twenty image with top ten potential. |

the cabooseby kdogg628Comment: Crisp and sharp which is a major plus. Lots of details, good angle which could have been a little higher, but it fine as it is. The author took time to do the best job in difficult lighting. Unfortunately, the rather drab and blank sky is a major issue taking away from the more than acceptable foreground details. This flaw kept it from being a top ten entry and a possible ribbon contender. |

The Iron Dukeby kingskingdomComment: Excellant conversion to black and white - the highlights are just on the edge of being excessive. Lots of details, good angle which could have been a little higher, but it fine as it is. The author took time to do the best job in difficult lighting. Unfortunately, the author submitted to the temptation to oversharpen the image either in the camera or post processing which is a major issue and flaw with this image. This could have been a top ten entry and a possible ribbon contender if that temptation could have been resisted. |
