When I Was A Boy...by tbangertComment: From a technical standpoint, this is a good effort - the slight grain is a positive. From an artistic standpoint, it's rather bland and uninviting to the viewer with nothing in particular to recommend it. The sky should be interesting and have some impact, but doesn't. Sometimes an image, even one as technically competant as this one is, is just an image. A worthy entry into the challenge and directly related to the challenge subject. A good effort falling short in the artistic sense. |

Rural stationby Rino63Comment: From a technical standpoint, this is a terrific effort - crisp, sharp with everything detail well controlled and captured. From an artistic standpoint, it's rather bland and uninviting to the viewer because it's overly busy affecting and detracting from the subject matter. Sometimes an image, even one as technically competant as this one is, is just an image. A worthy entry into the challenge and directly related to the challenge subject. A good effort falling short in the artistic sense. |

Train 67, 90 minute delayby vawendyComment: From a technical standpoint, this is unfortunately ruined by oversharpening which is a major flaw. From an artistic standpoint, if the temptation to oversharpen had been avoided, it would have been more than acceptable. If the image hadn't been oversharpened, this would have had significant impact on the viewer and should have placed well as the slight color cast is a major plus. Very unfortunate and the author would do well to critically examine the submissions for flaws like this before submitting. |

Get off the tracks!by snafflesComment: Overdone effects ruin an otherwise good idea. A better approach would have been to reduce the SFx concept and just create an image. There is a good idea here - it's just inartfully executed and frankly fails to impress in either a technical or artistic sense. More thought into how this image presents would have been a plus. |

Water Car - SPMW 5890by aliquiComment: Occasionally, a photographer has a great idea and just takes it ever so slightly over the edge which flaws an otherwise good effort. This is a good example of that - the shot angle is way too sharp to be effective in an artistic sense - less of an angle would have been very helpful and taken it from an also ran into ribbon contention. From a technical standpoint, this is perfect and a complete success - crisp and sharp with excellant DOF control. |

A Reflective Train Journeyby expatdawnComment: A combination of pastoral scene and challenge subject this is beautiful and artistic perfection. Green is the most difficult color to properly control digitally and the author has not only accomplished that in spectacular fashion, but used it to properly balance the tones of the rail car. Not a single issue to nit pick - even the reflection in the car's windows is perfectly focused and presented. A perfect example of a well though out image congnizant of the challenge subject and artistic impression. A ribbon winner for sure. Well done. |

The 12:30 from Grosmontby SaraRComment: From a technical standpoint, this is a terrific effort - crisp, sharp with everything detail well controlled and captured. From an artistic standpoint, it's rather bland and uninviting to the viewer - images occasionally suffer from too much detail and this is one. Sometimes an image, even one as technically competant as this one is, is just an image. A worthy entry into the challenge and directly related to the challenge subject. A good effort falling short in the artistic sense. |

The Forgotten Pathby JaimeVinasComment: The monotone feel and treatment is stellar - a perfect image from a technical and artistic sense. It would be a nit pick to complain about the overaly blank sky, but the nature of the composition is such that the subject is so perfectly framed and the image composed that one doesn't notice until well after the image has had it's impact. Well done and a certain ribbon contender. |
