Behind Barsby nana-kComment: More an image of lighting than a creative use of lighting. It's hard to rate this because of it's nature. It might have been a better approach to find a subject and then use the lighting to create the image rather than of the light itself or to concentrate on a macro shot to capture more the the effects of light flare on the clouds. |

The Best Side of Meby kleskiComment: Similar in concept to other images in this challenge, this image is clearly different if only because of the use of colored lighting to create a completely different look. Not a normal portrait, the sharp division between light and shadow, the textured shades and barely visible background on the lighted side of the face is clearly well thought out and captured. The author clearly met the challenge square on and submitted an image that clearly met the challenge specs. Well done. |

Anti-Flashby IraklisComment: A good demonstration of how lighting can be used to create a "noir" effect - it matches the challenge in every respect because both the subject and the lighting is used in a creative fashion to capture a mood piece that is outstanding. Sometimes images can tell stories and this image sparks the imagination which is what lighting is all about. Well done. |

Darkened Lanternby jpverkampComment: An interesting use of lighting to create a mode. The image might have been a little better composed if more concentration on the light through the lamp had been the subject completely and the image more centered rather than offset. At a minimum it meets the challenge criteria. |

Sunny Side Upby jomernerComment: Another use of lighting that marginally meets the challenge - subtle and very effective, it's a hard one to rate as this image would do well in any sort of minimalist challenge or competition. A good effort just missing the mark in terms of creativity. It might have been better if the author had concentrated on the reflection rather than the egg. |

Out of the Darknessby toddheadComment: The drama inherent in how the subject was revealed is good, but it's a rather stock piece seen in other images and not particularly "creative". Having said that, it's still a great image - strong and purposeful mood piece that would work well in any other venue or challenge and place well. |

Full Moonby LouisaComment: Reflective light in a rather stock piece of astrophotography. In another setting or challenge this would be a great piece, but as a demonstration of lighting in a creative way, it falls short of meeting the challenge. If the author had given some thought to how reflected moon light could be used to light another subject, it would have been a much better result. |
